To sit in an Exit row (per FAA regulations) you must be 15, speak English, and able to operate the door on US Domestic service. To sit infront of the exit row, their is no FAA regulation.

basketcase88
You don't want to sit in front of the exit row--those seats generally don't recline.

But there is no regulation against sitting in front of the exit row--just in it.

I know for a fact that the minimum age is 15 because the flight attendant on a Song flight a while back kept telling me to get up because she thought I was 14.

If you want to sit in the row in front of the exit row, there is no minimum age but those rows generally have minimum recline or don't recline at all.

From American Airlines:

"When a detailed itemized description is warranted: The answer to number one must be "YES" and the answer to two through eight must be "NO" or they cannot have an exit seat.

1. Are you willing to assist on an evacuation?
2. Are you under 15 years of age? "

you have to be over 18 to sit IN the row, but if you sit in front or behind you are fine, That is ok

Yes.
On the last flight I was on for U.S. Airways (whom, by the way, I do NOT recommend), I believe you had to be 16 though.
It may be 15. But I think 16.

no, you have to be 18 and in good physical shape to sit in the exit row, its like they think that person is going to stand on the burning plane and help other people jump out, I wonder if anyone has ever actually done this, although it does make sense that you want someone there who can open the door fast if they need to.

m d
Yes, it's not so much about the age as it is about the ability to unlatch a door and throw it out the plane after a crash, those doors weigh 60+ lbs. So if your 16 and can throw out a door your good, but some people are 30 and couldn't do it, so it's not a matter of age but ability.

Mary A
I think the minimum age is 16
