The security personnel might make you turn it on, to make sure your laptop really is a laptop. You might be in for a hassle if it doesn't work.

Yes you can. Actually you are allowed one piece of carry on which can be a good size bag plus a laptop bag. If you're going on a short trip , avoid checking your bags unless you have gel and liquid stuff which can't be in your carry on. Please don't ever check your bag with a laptop in it because it can easily get damaged. One more thing , you have to take your laptop out of the bag when you go through the security checkpoint.

yeah im flying out of stl for spring break on friday. they'll let you bring one carry on item(bag/purse/laptop bag/backpack) with whatever you want in it..

yes, yes you can although you can only use it after you take off and before you land because it will iterfear with the radio communications from the tower.
