Can you bring baby formula or milk on a plane flight?

I am going to Florida for vacation during the summer and I am just wondering if you could bring formula for a baby or milk on the plane. I can't cancel the trip because this is like a once in a lifetime chance.

Absolutely..you need to see the TSA guidlines for travelling with children...they make it easy.

I'm a former Flight Attendant and I now fly a lot with my own three children.

You can bring formula and/or milk on board. No, you do not need to stick to the 3 oz. limit there is on other liquids if you are flying in the U.S.;

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/children/formula.shtm

If you are bringing powdered formula and want to use bottled water, you need to give yourself enough time to buy water after security before boarding. Do NOT depend on the crew to give you enough for the flight. We did not have unlimited supplies on board and we didn't have enough to give to bottle-fed babies.

Yes, it's overpriced but there really isn't any way around it unless you're okay with using the tap water on the plane. It's filtered tap so decide if you're comfortable using that for your baby.

For a formula fed baby, I really recommend using the bottles with plastic liners. Traditional bottles are too difficult to wash onboard because of the kind of sinks on airplanes. I premeasured the powder and rolled them up, placing the rolls in a ziplock bag. Then you throw the liners away as you use them and only have the ring and nipple to clean.

For the record, I tried both premixed formula in cans as well as individual packets. I didn't find either as convenient as putting the formula in the liners myself. It was more compact and easier on board. You have to prepare them ahead of time but saves time in the air.

Be sure you baby does not need the bottle warmed. Get him used to a room-temperature bottle before leaving. This is unnecessary health-wise and a real pain to do while travelling. I warmed many bottles on my flights but I wasn't there in the check-in line, the security line or the waiting area! Babies do great with room-temperature bottles.

About 8 years ago, I wrote an article on flying with children for an expat newsletter. Over the years many parents have contributed, both on line and in Real Life. I later put it on a blog so that parents had access to non-commercial information from someone with both practical and professional experience on the web. Feel free to visit;

Have a great time in Florida!

Yes you can bring baby formula with you on the aircraft. They have some specific guidelines for traveling with an infant. Here is the link to the TSA website were they discuss that:

Hope this helps and have a great trip!

Yes. Check the airline's website for regulations as they change frequently close to the time you are traveling. You will most likely have to carry the formula in a certain sized container.

Lets Go Mets!
I'm sure you could, but you should call the airport, or a health office, and if you cant get to a grocery story when you get to the hotel in Florida.

Check the airline's restrictions and regulations.
Baby formula is for sure allowed, not sure about milk.

i know that you can only bring a 3 oz. bottle of something liquid on the plane but that is when it is in its original package. I don't know if you can bring the powdered kind.... i think that you should be able to as long as its a little can and not opened yet, and in a zip lock but i still think tha tit has to be 3 oz or less. The last time i went on a plane (april vaca)we had to pack our makeup and perfumes into quart ziplocks and have them in their original packaging and still had to b under the 3 oz even the powdered, thats why i'm not sure.

I don't know if this helps at all but its what i know... sorry :(

S W
You can bring either of them. But check with the airline's Web site for the amount that you can take/packaging restrictions.

Have a great trip! :)

Yeah, stuff for baby is okay up to 3 ounces.

Only 3 ounces of liquid if it is already mixed. Just take the powder and ask them for some bottled water when you get on the plane.
