It depends upon the company. Most charter companies and the no frills airlines such as easyjet there is no problem anyone can pay for anyone else's tickets. However for some of the big scheduled airlines you have to follow certain procedures. For example Virgin, if you aren't the card holder than the tickets must be sent to the card holders address and then they have to forward them. Iberia if you aren't the cardholder then the cardholder has to go to a registered Iberia office to show their card and state they have authorised the trip.
The best thing you can do is check with the relevant airline that the card holder doesn't have to be present or one of the passengers before you book as chances are you won't be able to cancel it if you can't fulfil the terms and conditions. |

Of course you can. The card holders details & the passengers details do not have to be the same. |

Aye no probs-I buy my mums all the time to come n visit me, almost all airlines'll have a system in place where the passenger just either picks up a boarding pass or a ticket at the relevant companies travel desk.

yes, you can. However, it will be better to do so at a High Street travel agent than online (the online travel agents generally assume the payer is the lead passenger). |

As long as a ticket has the persons name on it it's all OK. |

Of course. Airlines don't care who is paying for the trip. As long as the names on the ticket and ID match the actual traveler. No problem. |

Yes you can.
BUT…… If booking online through the Airline Website make sure you can, as some airlines (like Emirates) require that the Credit Card holder who buys the flights online has to be one of the people flying.
So yes you can, of course. But just check if your booking it online with your credit card. |

yes you can just contact the airline and give them all the details of the person travelling |

Yes, domestically with an e-ticket, you can book a flight for anybody. Since you can check-in for your flight and have your boarding pass printed via internet or self check-in kiosk, you will never have to goto the ticket counter.
I've done this many times for my folks, who aren't good with computers. I just book the flights online with my own credit card, give them the confirmation number, and collect a check from them later. They check in at the airport self-service kiosk and check-in their luggage curbside. They've never been asked for a credit card.
I've done this with Southwest, Alaska, and American airlines.
This might not work internationally, since you must goto the ticket counter to check in. |

yes via a travel agent. No if you are booking online with a credit card unless the person gives you their credit card number as the credit card must match that of a person travelling. I used to book my boss's flights all the time for him via a travel agent and they just sent the tickets over to the office. |

You would probably have to go to a travel agent rather than over the web.
Most airlines need to see the credit card the ticket was booked with when you go to the check in desk. |
