Can you carry lighters on flights now?

What about an unopened bottle of wine, I want to take as a gift?

From state to state.

Thanks!
Additional Details
I checked the website--for lighters, if you look in the "carry on "column, it says YES.

Wine, it says certain restrictions.

yes, as of august, 2007 you can carry lighters. the wine will have to go in checked luggage due to it's larger than 3 ounces, pack it well, the ramp monkeys will toss your bags!

i had 4 ounce contact lens solution and had to put it in my checked bag.

Dad's found yer scoo'er
Lighters are OK. Just put them in a plastic bag (provided) and put them in the plastic bin along with anything else to go through the x-ray machine. If you buy wine duty free you get it "delivered" to you on the plane. If it's an internal flight put the wine in your check in luggage.

caldude804
I assume that you mean USA state to USA state.
Lighters are still, and will always be prohibited on USA domestic flights.
Unopened bottles of wine are still considered liquids, and thus need to meet the 3 oz. rule. Obviously a full bottle of wine is not less than 3 oz. The only way to bring the bottle of wine is to put it in your suitcase between plenty of clothes (always works for me!)

Good luck, and have a safe flight

The most up to date information from the TSA:

Lighter Fluid : Carry on:No Checked:No

Common Lighters - Lighters without fuel are permitted in checked baggage. Lighters with fuel are prohibited in checked baggage, unless they adhere to the Department of Transportation (DOT) exemption, which allows up to two fueled lighters if properly enclosed in a DOT approved case. If you are uncertain as to whether your lighter is prohibited, please leave it at home.

Torch Lighters - Torch lighters create a thin, needle-like flame that is hotter (reaching 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit) and more intense than those from common lighters. Torch lighters are often used for pipes and cigars, and maintain a consistent stream of air-propelled fire regardless of the angle at which it is held. Torch lighters continue to be banned.

Strike-anywhere Matches - One book of safety (non-strike anywhere) matches are permitted as carry-on items, but all matches are prohibited in checked baggage.

Beverages brought from home or purchased before reaching the security checkpoint in containers LARGER than 3 oz. No to carry on and Yes for checked baggage.

Beverages brought from home or purchased before reaching the security checkpoint in a 3 oz. or smaller container and in your quart-size, zip-top plastic bag. Yes to both carry on and checked baggage.

Beverages purchased after security screening Yes to both carry on and checked

Duty free alcohol and other items Carry on: Yes, but some restrictions apply. Checked:Yes This is covered under international travel duty-free regulations. Since you're traveling state to state this doesn't apply.
Have a great trip!

No.

As for the bottle of wine, is it smaller than 3.4 oz?

Lil' Slim Kim
I flew last week (roundtrip) and both my husband and I had 1 lighter each and security said nothing about them and they were scanned with the rest of the contents from our pockets.

Yes yes yes!

Anytime ive flown recently they have always asked me to take the lighter out of bag and put it in my pocket because its safer!

As for the wine, only liquids purchased after security can be taken on board.

Magpie
the lighter rule is you can now carry on 1 lighter
about the wine

Sorry, but you can't carry-on liquids or gels in containers that can hold more than 3 ounces. Not sure about lighters.

However, you can certainly pack lighters and liquids/gels in a checked bag (no problem).

Go to www.tsa.gov for more info.

lighters - no
wine - yes, since it's from state to state and not to other countries. Just put it in your checked baggage, and not the carry-on baggage.

if you purchase the wine in the airport you can take it on board , but a lighter must be in your luggage not on your body
