Qantas is one of several major international airlines that are considering Boeing's new 777-200LR, which Wednesday and Thursday flew further nonstop than any jetliner ever has before. The new Boeing 301-seater could easily make London-Sydney nonstop, with as many as 250 passengers, according to Boeing.
Qantas has said it could announce an order decision Dec. 7. It is also considering the Airbus A340-500, which could also make the London-Sydney trip nonstop. |

Boeing claims that the 777-200LR has the range to fly from London to Perth nonstop. However, no airline flies this route nonstop.
No commercial aircraft currently can fly from Sydney to London nonstop. Even if the aircraft technically has the range, airlines are required to carry a certain amount of extra fuel for circling and diversions. By the time that you factor in that, Sydney is out of range. |

No, you must take at least one stop.
British Airways and Qantas stop in Singapore or Bangkok (more times than not, sometime Hong Kong) and Virgin Atlantic stops in Hong Kong.
I dont know why you would want to be stuck on an aircraft for 22 consecutive hours though. |

I think you can but seriously you wouldn't want to.
I've flown there but always had to break up my flight as i just couldn't handle being on a plane that long.
Even on a 16 hour flight i felt it was too long and was happy to get off.

You can but not on one of those Jumbo jet thingamies.
They can only go direct from LA to Sydney. That's the limit.

As well as refuelling, I think Pilots are only allowed to work a certain amount of hours. Like HGV drivers. |
