Can you get cell phone service or internet on an airplane?

Some airlines allow you to use your phone until the doors are closed, others prohibit use once you're onboard, and all airlines require your phone to be turned off or in airline mode during your flight. As far as internet, American Airlines has begun offering wi-fi on certain transcontinental routes and airlines such as Alaska, Southwest and Delta will soon be offering in-flight wi-fi (for a price of course). So unless you're on an American Airlines flight that offers wi-fi you'll not be able to access the internet while in the air. AA offer wi-fi on some of their transcontinental LAX-JFK/SFO flights for $13 each way.

And you can't have your cell on.

It's a federal law that your phone can't be on during the flight. Your phone must be off before take off and they announce when you land when it's okay to turn it back on. Sorry, no internet either.

They did call from the 9/11 planes but technically it was illegal and I'm sure the flight attendants overlooked it due to the circumstances.

You may use your laptop, to play games but you cannot get internet connection on the plane.

You may use your phone..not to call people but to play on or whatever...you may ONLY use this if it has flight mode and this flight mode MUSt be on..or else it could easily interfere with the signal of the plane.

When you board an airplane they will probably tell you to turn off your cell phones and any other electronic devices. After about 10 Minutes in the air they will tell you that you can turn all of those devices on. When you fly in an airplane there is no service because you are way above where there would BE service. I have heard of some airliners having wireless on-board but most don't or are planning to put wireless on their airplanes.

ive heard tht u can. tht's how ppl on the flight to dc on 9-11 knew about the bad guys. but it's not good for the plane. it screws with something. so, ur not allowed 2 use it.

No. You don't get service on the plane for either your phone or the internet. You can use your cell until the pilot asks you to turn it off just before take off.

depends what service u have... my friend has an iphone and he gets service anywhere cuz it has satilites instead of cell towers.
