yes it is safe only when the say you can at the start of the flight they say to turn off all electronics but after that you can so long as you have a wireless modem to plug into your laptop

No. You are not allowed to use any devise that transmits, such as a wireless Internet connection, cell phone, two way radios ...

The reason is, there is a chance the transmission will interfere with the plane's navigation system.

Currently right now the answer is no more then yes. Some airlines are adopting the capabilities to allow travelers to use their laptops during flight, but not many have made the switch yet. I would suggest that you check with your airline prior to traveling.

Alexi
It really depends on the airline, and the capabilites/specs of your laptop. For the most part, most airlines do not have their aircraft equipped with the capabilites to allow you to surf the web. In the early 2000s, some airlines began experimenting with the service however due to the high costs of the services at the time, many passengers responded negitavely and stopped using the services.

Today (quite recently - in the past few days) we are seeing that a range of airlines are testing the idea and if test go well, it might just become a standard within the industry. American Airlines, JetBlue and Virgin America here in the U.S. have been testing the products (or rather are about to be begin testing in some cases) and Internationally AirFrance is testing on short-haul inter-European routes.

Umm, one thing that is going to be the kicker for this new technology is phone usage. And with the advent of internet usage you are going to be able to use telephones onboard. Some may like that idea, but for the most part it is going to suck!

Nicole B
No because the internet is conneting to service which will interupt the plane device which makes the plane crash

Shannie G
nope, but you can use applications like Word, etc., that don't require the internet

diianak
it depends but i think ur allowed.....
but if ur going somewhere on a plane then take ur laptop and ask one of the ppl that work thre and they will tell u if ur allowed or not or call ur airport and ask

Depends on the airline, and your laptop. As much as I know, you are not allowed to use any laptop with the CD/DVD drive.
So if you can remove your CD/DVD drive or don't have one and find an airline that already offers In-Flight Internet Service, then... yes, you can.

you can. Some planes have connections where you can hook it up. Some can use wireless. It all just depends on the flight
