they will tell you when you can and cannot use "portalbe electronic devices"
The reason they dont want you listening to music with head phones during take off and landing is because these are the 2 most likely times for a crash and if there was to be one they want to make sure you are completely oriented and know where the exits are...so please follow the rules on an airplane |

Yes you can they don't have a chip like mobile phones do so they dont transmit a signal...the only signal these things transmit is thru your headphones |

Yes sure!
However, you should turn it off during take- off and landing due to safety reason. It is because if there any annoucements or emergencies, you will know what to do.
While many modern aircrafts do not affected by any transmission from modern devices like Mp3, radio or cell phone, passengers still have to follow basic rule of flying. |

I'm not familiar with iPods, but if they have any transmitting or radio capability, see if the iPod has "flight mode" to turn the transmitter off. Then you can use the device. As far as I know, iPods *don't* have such capabilities (which means you can use them with no problem), but it's wise to double check - perhaps there's some super duper iPod model with radio and phone and GPS or whatever. |

The only issue may be security problems.It depends where you are flying and when. From USA to Europe is risky but within the USA I'd say so. |

Yep. I flew from the U.S. to London with my IPOD and it was fine. However, I was asked to turn it off during take-off and landing though. |
