Can you send an 8 yr old on a plane by himself?

My son is 8 and we are in Colorado. He hasn't seen his grandparents in about 6 months and I would like for him to be able to visit them. Is there any way I can send him on a plane by himself for a week or so?

Yes, you have to make special arrangements with the airlines, and a responsible adult (with ID) has to be there to pick the child up.

Yes you can. My cousin's father lives in Texas and every summer
his mom sends him out there for a month. I think what happens is you have to let the airline know and they will have like some babysitter take care of him. He will stay with him until the father picks him up

You have to pay for the service

yeah, they have child services at the airport, where there is a flight attendant always with him/her, but there does have to be a responsible adult to pick him up

Most airlines will transport unaccompanied minors 12 and over free, but children below that age often result in a fee. You may want to book over the phone, to ensure this service is complied. It may cost an additional fee, but it is for the assurance your child is safe.

ya i have flown alone sine i was 4, they let you board early so you get all settled and the flight attendant watches over you, you exit last and they take you to meet whoever is picking them up, i have never had problems and its actually pretty fun for a kid, get your wings and stuff :) and i'm in colorado and its totally worth it

i even had layovers when i was alone and they have a kid game room in the back but ya they take good care of you

Yes you can. You have to arrange with the airline that you are sending your son as an Unaccompanied Minor.

Once you check your son in at the counter, an agent of the airline will bring your son through security. Once he has gone thru security, he will then be escorted to the gate. Once he is at the gate, and the boarding gate agent starts boarding, he will get priority in boarding, since he is a UM. Then once he is on the plane, the Flight attendant will give him a briefing on the aircraft (flight attendant call button, lavatory, lights, seatbelt, exits... UM are usually placed in a seat within good vincinity of the Incharge flight attendant too) Once they land at destination, UM will be either the first or last one to deplane. The Incharge flight attendant then hands UM over to designated agent at destination, who will go get luggage and bring your son to the designated person that us suppose to pick your son up at the airport.

Your son should be in good hands travelling as a UM! Good Luck!

yeah its no problem, you could have the flight attendants to be with him and the airport security guards could help him out, if you know he gets sad, you can give him a picture of yourself.
