Yes you can sleep in the airport but not in the secure area. Ask airport employees to suggest a clean and less traveled area. They will be able to tell you which chairs do not have arm rails so you can stretch out. Make sure you bring a sheet, blanket and pillow to make yourself very comfortable. Put some string in your bag so you can tie your bags to your body. Keep the zippers and pockets toward your body. I would try to check in all bags at the time of initial check in. Let the airline keep them secure and leave you with one less thing to worry about. Get a boarding pass for your next flight before you leave the gate area. When you awake you can get in the security line right away and be on your way.
Sleeping in the airport is not the safest thing in the world. Look into a room before you go. If you end up sleeping in the airport...ASK THE AIRLINE EMPLOYEE FOR SUGGESTIONS. I AM SURE THEY WILL BE GLAD TO HELP. |

It depends on the airport. There are some reviews here http://www.airlinequality.com/main/forum.htm Some of them include comments about sleeping. There is also this site http://www.sleepinginairports.net/ , devoted to sleeping in airports. |

No woman should be unaccompanied in a public place overnight... even if you just bring along a girlfriend you'll be a lot safer. You can get robbed anywhere, but I think you'd be safe as far as bodily harm since airports have tons of security and people. If i were you, if i planned on dozing off I'd ask one of those people who work at each boarding area if they can look after yourself. if that doesn't work, ask a worker or a nice looking adult (not some teenager) if they'd informally watch your stuff while you nap. |

I did once in 1979 because I had no choice but it was awful. You have to hang on to your bag and the only people around are the cleaners. There's probably be more security these days and they might even throw you out. The benches are uncomfortable too. That was in Canada and you shouldn't even consider it outside north america. That would be taking your life in your hands. Change your flight or get a room. |

A BIG piece of information that's missing of your question is WHERE.
In what country or what airport is this layover? Some countries/airports will not allow sleeping overnight.
Where allowed, I would suggest putting some (or all, if practical) of your body right on top of your luggage items and take naps. Make sure you have some way to wake up in time for your next flight.
MOST airports in the world are pretty secure. |

Yes, but in a nice are. Try next to a worker, tell them if they could watch you or something. Put a leg over your bag or lean against it.

I have had to sleep in the airport many times due to bad weather, flight delays etc. Nothing ever happened to me, but I kept all my stuff under me in my chair and kept my feet up on any suitcase I might have. You shouldn't have alot of luggage, just your carry on, the airline should take care of large luggage.Everyone has to sleep there sometimes, no you don't get in trouble. |

I'm not sure what the current situation is, but there used to be a regulation that a passenger who had a layover of more than eight hours on an international flight had to be allowed a voucher for a hotel room. I discovered this by accident when I was on my way from China to Pittsburgh and had a long layover in New York. I was exhausted and asked a Northwest Airlines employee a question. She said, "Wait here." Then she got me a voucher and told me where to wait for the shuttle bus. I'm still grateful for this simple act of kindness. |

I wouldn't recommend sleeping in any airport. I had to sleep at San Francisco International because I was 15 min late to a red-eye flight to St Louis. The chairs were uncomfortable and you had to put up with hearing "THE WHITE PARKING ZONE IS FOR UNLOADING AND LOADING PASSENGERS ONLY..." every 10 minutes. Worst night of sleep in my life. |
