No you can't. They will either ask you to unwrap them or confiscate them. Play it safe and take the wrapping paper with you to do the job when you arrive.

They're OK in your hold luggage, but not in your hand luggage.

I work at an airport.
I have seen wrapped presents go in checked luggage, but they were x-rayed first. If a wrapped present could go on carryon style, it would be x-rayed, too, and I don't see how this would be impossible. I just can't say I've seen it.
Alas, the airport I work at is small, and maybe for this or some other reason airports are different.
But most importantly, I don't work for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and TSA is responsible for the security in US airports. If you want the credible, official information, look at the TSA website (the link is below). I think the airlines regulate size and weight, but everything else is regulated by TSA.

Best not to.They may ask you to unwrap them to inspect them. It will draw their suspicion to you. I had to open some of the packages I had. The thing is a lot of department stores have charity wrapping booths this time of year and it is a great idea to have your stuff wrapped before you leave the mall but it does not work for travelling. Can you check the luggage with the presents. I think they only check the carry on stuff.

I flew back from Spain on Easy yet! with a WHOLE case of wrapped presents not an issue at all.... I just would steer clear of in hand luggage

Private_Jet_Charter
You can get updated airport security information here: http://wehow.ehow.com/how_2003583_pack-holiday-travel.html
http://www.tsa.gov/

zzzzz
no
unwrapped only they have to be able to open then
just like luggage cannot be locked
check tsa.gov

boomedly
Put them in the hold luggage but to be on the safe side dont wrap it only encourages suspicion and you are not allowed to wrap them anyway they have been telling us this for weeks. Dont forget no aerosols or funny liquids either.

You would not be able to get thru security; it is best to check them. Otherwise I have seen people lately having to unwrap the presents holding up the lines of security. That makes every one in line mad because they are wondering if they will make their flight. The Dept. of Transportation dictates what you can and cannot take on the plane; their website is at www.tsa.gov

bex
yeah i did i just had to wrap it when i landed. i hid the presents in a bag. its quite understandable why really though

jml
no you cant. just back from paris and all the people who had carefully wrapped their presents had to open them for inspection

You can take whatever you want onto the plane in your suitcase as long as it is going in the hold and NOT handluggage!!!
this is a nightmare... but is worse when they make you take your shoes and belt off to go thro security!!!

And that was only an internal flight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh... and dont buy any bottles in the airport BEFORE you go thro passport control into your departure lounge because they take this off you!!!!!!!!

Hope this helps

barrygateaux
hmmm... interesting idea of a 'raped' present. who would you give it to?

apuleuis
I believe you can bring wrapped presents. I've seen people do it. However if they alarm through security, they have to unwrap them so they can clear them to fly. If you are bringing them as carry-ons then of course no liquids. Security has x-ray which sees through wrapping paper.
