After boarding you may text up until the aircraft door is closed. They will make an announcement "The aircraft door has now been closed, please turn off and stow all cellular telephones for the remainder of the flight." This is so the communication and navigations systems will not have interference. Despite a post to the contrary you will not die or wind up in another location if your phone is on. The only time I've heard of when there was interference due to electronics the captain came on the PA and told all passengers to discontinue using them NOW. And when they did all the flight deck instruments returned to normal.
Once you are on the ground and have turned off the active runway you will once again be permitted to use your phone. They will announce this as well "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Minneapolis/St.Paul, please remain seated with your seatbelts fastened and your luggage stowed until the seatbelt sign has been turned off, cell phones may now be used, etc.

No they make sure you turn off your cell phones. They onyl thing you can really use is you laptop. And they tell you when you can turn it on and when you have to turn it off.

No you can't!!! The best way around this, is for a short flight, txt message before you get on. For longer flight, if you have a tv/remote, usually the back of the remote is a phone, so you swipe a credit card and can ring any number. Just be careful, its like ringing from the hotel, very expensive!!!! They are trying to bring it in though, so it probably wont be all that long before people are allowed to use them, but for now its still illegal : (

turn your phone off! it's not a hard concept, i hate when people leave them on. just follow the instructions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... at a lower altitude, you CAN text, but it's not allowed.

No - you must not use a phone on board a plane (unless it has Airplane Mode.. but that basically takes away your signal and disconnects you from a network so you are unable to send and receive messages anyway.

You might recall the last time you were on a flight that the air stewardesses specifically say DO NOT have your phone on during a flight. they also don't want you to have it on until you are well inside the airport terminal.

The signal interferes with the navigational equipment so instead of a flight to China, you might find yourself in Russia!!

No you cant call or text, if ur phone has an airoplane mode u can listen to music and play games

NO! absolutely not!!!
u may not use ur phone in a plane, b/c it interferes with the planes signal, which can either, mess up the signal with land connections, radar, ways of landing, or ALL THREE!!!
the ppl who have could have killed themselves!!!!
the stewardesses tell u not to for those reasons!
after the plane has landed, sometimes they will let u turn ur phone on (to call mom, dad) but thats b/c they have already landed and nothing can happen
after lift off, at a ceratin time, u CAN turn on ur laptop, portable dvd player or cd player, mp3, ipod. but thats after a certain time, and those things dont interfere with the connection.
and a time soon b4 landing, they ask u to turn off ur electronics.
and only AFTER they have landing for about 5-10 minutes, can u turn on ur phone
otherwise turn ur phone off , b/c u may not text or call anyone, but someone might text u, or call u and THAT can interfere with it too.

u can but you might loose signal on ur cell if ur texting..all i know is that ive texted on a plane until i lost signal
