Can you use electronic cigarettes on flights?

on various websites it states that these are allowed to be used in all places where smoking is banned and I don't know if this applies to flights

The airline I work for has banned them not just for the dangerous goods side of things, or the electronic aspect, but also for the alarm they may cause amongst passengers so I would check with your airline before you travel anywhere.

I am not sure, but honestly, it would be extremely rude of you to smoke on a flight, even if it is allowed. I would be very upset of I go t a seat that was next to someone that was smoking! It is very sickening and after a flight, which are not usually pleasant without people smoking, you do not want to smell like a cigarette!

All I am saying is think about the people around you before you do that!

Asherael
try taking nasal snuff, its much better than smoking or chew.

no... if it gives out a smell and smoke no.... it absoutly says on planes NO SMOKING how would you like it to be in a confined space with smoke all around. I know you don't mind the smell but alot of people do. so please don't smoke on a plane... or even at all PLEASE QUIT

The jury is out, see http://www.nowpublic.com/health/should-faa-allow-electronic-cigarettes-sky

TEL BOY
If it uses any form of combustion then it will be banned under the dangerous items list, and thus not allowed on any aircraft

As long as no smoke or heat is produced I don't see why they would not be allowed. I am a flight attendant and have never seen an electronic cigarette so I don't know what they actually do. If they are electronic there are times during the flight (just after take off and just before landing) that you will have turn it off and put it away.

EDIT: I just read about what an electronic cigarette is. It has a battery, nicotine and a cartridge that holds a liquid called Propylene glycol which produces a 'puff' of liquid that is most like cigarette smoke. This would not be allowed since it emits a 'smoke' containing nicotine.

You should be able to, as they are not proper cigarettes.

I've never heard of an electric cigarette before. Thanks for asking.

Here's some info I found online:

...you will not only benefit from a healthier life, but you will also have the freedom to smoke anywhere in the world, including bars and restaurants where smoking is prohibited. The electronic cigarette has no odour, no burning, and absolutely no need of a lighter....

DNorm
You should be able to. Then again they bleet about using electronic devices as well and there is the visual thing. It would be strange seeing people 'smoke' in confined spaces again. You are bound to get a complete debate about this one!!
