Changing or cancelling reservations without losing money?

Is there any way to change or even cancel airline and car rental reservations without losing the money or paying much more for different connections???

Not sure about car hire sorry but the conditions of the airfare you purchased should give you cancellation costs or fees to make changes.

Of course the more money you paid to purchase the ticket, the better chances of it being refundable and penalty fees for changes can be lower. Maybe you can call the airline direct and ask them what would happen if you cancelled your reservation or if you had to make changes? Good luck!

yes you can try to negotiate . they are a case by case basis. sometimes you get lucky. a doctor's note also helps . if you bought travel insurance... you will have no worries.

Unless you purchase a fully refundable, unrestricted airline ticket, you are most likely going to have to pay a fee, plus any fare differential when changing your ticket. Most airlines do not offer refund for cancellations, either, but allow you to keep the ticket as a credit for one year from the date of purchase. When you use the credit, though, you'll be subject to the same fee and fare difference. Full refundable, unrestricted tickets are very expensive, but offer the flexibility if you need it.

As for car reservations, typically car rental companies do not bill you until you pick up your vehicle, so they tend not to charge you for cancellations or changes. Check with the car rental company you plan to go through for their specific policies.

Not unless you bought refundable tickets. Usually when you book you have to specify that you want refundable and they are usually way more expensive.

car reservations..there is no problem..unless you booked with HOTWIRE where you pay immediately at the time you made the reservation. Airfare..you are going to have to pay a minimun of $50 for changing..plus any difference in air fare..unless you cancel witnin 24 hours of making the reservation.

My only guess is to hope that the flight is oversold and try to negotiate for a different connecting city. Then blame the airline when you have to change the car rental reservations.

It depends on what the conditions on your ticket are, read this very carfefully as it will state if you can change/cancel and whether you have to forfeit some or all of the cost.

On the other hand if you have insurance that covers you for this you should be able to make changes.

if your flight is within the us you should be able to change your time/date but if its internation flight your going to have to pay a fee plus the differance in the price of the new ticket.the fee for changing dates on internation flights vary with airlines usally between 125 to 200 dollars
