Cigarettes and airplane travel? |
I am traveling from Pittsburgh to Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. next weekend for a Caribbean cruise. My wife and I smoke, but are unsure how to transport cigarettes on the plane. Basically we would each have a pack with us, but we both want to take a carton of smokes with us for the length of the trip. Can we just put the full cartons in our checked luggage?
I've been over the TSA website time and time again and there is NO reference to cigarettes at all.
And yes, I know you are allowed to carrry lighters in carry-ons.
Any help would be appreciated! Additional Details I just figured we could carry 1-2 packs with us and then just put the rest of the cartons in the suitcase, but like I said, I can find no mention on the TSA site as to how/where to transport them. |

It shouldn't be a problem. I recently flew and I had about 5 packs in my carryon, and one pack in my pockets and had no trouble whatsoever.
I flew from Los Angeles to Pittsburgh. |

You will be fine bringing 2 cartons of cigarettes for 2 people. When you come back into the states, there is a limit as far as how much you can bring back. |

It is perfectly acceptable to carry cigarettes on a plane, either on your person or in your bags. Should you buy additional smokes during your cruise, you are only allowed a certain amount to bring back into the states, so just be careful of your duty free shopping. They will tell you the acceptable amount, but it's something like a carton per person. You can check out what you're allowed to bring back to the states in the US Customs website. http://www.customs.ustreas.gov/xp/cgov/home.xml
Good luck and have a wonderful cruise. |

If you are worried about putting them in your suitcase and they will get conficated, which they porbably won't. Why don't you just pick some up at a variety store in the airport or outside the airport or anywhere when you get to Ft.Lauderdale.....though chances are they won't take them away, but I would still get them when you are in Flordia. |

Anything that is not PROHIBITED on the TSA, is allowed. |

Yes go ahead and put them in your suitcase, it'll be fine.
This is just a thought I know you don't care but:
If your trying to quit then just leave the cigarettes home so you don't have any to smoke while your there. Maybe you'll quit. |

While you may very well be allowed to bring tobacco products onto the plane, it is an enclosed space. On most planes, you may be strongly discouraged or prohibited from smoking while on board, due to the health hazard to other passengers. So cigarettes. No striking laws were found on this, nationally, but you may be otherwise informed of airline or other regulations. |

Honestly I beleive that you should start quitting because then problems like these come up. |
