Cigarettes on Plane?i'm desperate?

Well I'm from greece and it's my first flight in a few days and i will be flying to london.
I was wondering, can you take cigarettes with you on the plane? if so how many packs are you allowed to have with you on you're carry on luggage?
can you bring a lighter/matches with you?
also could you buy them from duty free stores?
i'm a bit desperate so, thanks in advance!

if you reside in the UK you can bring in 3800 cigarettes from greece don't know if this applies to you, but as for lighters i have always carried my lighter on me only 1 per person allowed sometimes have been provided with a clear resealable plastic bag to carry it in.

Orla C
You can't smoke on most flights anymore. You can probably buy the cigarettes, but won't be permitted to smoke them in flight.

Get some Nicotine patches in you're that desperate.

You can take cigarettes on a plane but you can't smoke them, obviously. Once you land in London, you will not be able to smoke until you completely leave the airport because of the UK smoking ban in public places. You can carry a lighter but you are as well to put it in your pocket, rather than your hand luggage.

The Tank
The question of lighters varies. On British Airways and Easyjet from London you will be allowed to take ONE lighter. I know this for a fact.

You will definitely not be allowed to open your cigarettes on the aeroplane and will be arrested if you try to smoke one.

Why not pack your cigarettes in the hold luggage?

Ask the airport

You seem desperate with your ciggarettes and taking them with you. You should be aware that under international law, it is illegal to smoke on an airplane and if you do, you will face an extreme fine. That said, yes you are allowed to take ciggarettes with you on your flight. The real issue is of a lighter which it depends on the airline and the country and their policies. In the US, I have seen people get on planes with lighters and not stopped.

Since you are from Greece and are flying to London, you are not allowed to buy from duty free, at least the tax free part since you are considered part of the whole system, duty free doesn't apply to you.

If you are really worred about your nicotine, you can always buy the nicotine patches or the gum. My aunt smokes 2 cartons a day and she purchased the patches and the gum on a flight from Spain to the US and she did not die. After she arrived she was able to get through Customs and Immigration and go outside and smoke and she survived.

London is a very progressive city that offers a wide variety of cigarettes and lighters that I know you can purchase while you are there. Just think about some gum or patches to help you through your flight.

buy your ciggies in Greece...cheaper. you can take as many as your hand luggage bag will allow & it must'nt weigh over 5kgs (?)....you can bring 3,200 ciggies back in total...so why not put them into your luggage.

there is no duty free within European countries...it will be Duty Paid in Greece...& you CAN bring back that amount of ciggies...it is just the same as going over to France & buying lots there! trust me!

You are NOT allowed to smoke on a plane anymore.

Lucy
I know you can buy cigarettes at Duty Free and you can take them on the plane but you can't take lighters with you.

NO lighters and NO smoking on flights. I'm not sure about cigarettes since I don't smoke. Best solution: stop smoking. Save your own life.

No lighters, no matches on or in your carry on luggage. As far as cigarettes, you can take as many as you want. The downside is, you cant smoke inside at most airports. So you go outside for a cig, if you have time between flights. I know it sucks!

Gertrud S
yes, you can take cigarettes, but you have to remove the
metal foil in the packages - they will make you unpack and
check what the metal is, if you don/t.no, you are not allowed
to take lighters or matches and you cannot buy them in
duty free stores. avoid problems at check-in, buy a lighter
after arrival.
the quantity of cigarettes allowed to import without having to
pay taxes does vary from country to country, as far as i know.
you have to check that.
