Contacts or glasses on a 10-hour plane ride?

just wondering.... becuz i go to japan tomorrow and i have contacts.
the only problem is, i lose a LOT of stuff, so im afraid i might lose the glasses (thats what i did last year)... but you're not allowed to bring in contact solutions all that because of the new 'no liquid' policy, right?
which is better/more comfortable?

**i dont like wearing glasses because they make me look really ugly... some people look good wearing glasses but i don't. i dont wanna show up at the airport w/ all my friends greeting me there and look really really ugly.

Ideally I would suggest wearing the glasses because you woudn't have to bother with issues like changing lenses if the flight is delayed for some reason or if suddenly you feel discomfort in the eyes while travelling, in such cases rinsing lenses or changing into glasses can be cumbersome. since you mention your distaste for wearing glasses then you can just go ahead with lenses , as 10 hours is a safe duration for wearing them although this would be feasible only if choose to ignore possible probs as mentioned earlier. ( to the best of my knowledge lenses can be worn upto 14 hours at a stretch without problems)

P.S. : am sure there is a frame out there which will just suit you fine, so next time around buy something that makes you look fine enough for you not to be embarassed. :)

It all depends on how sensitive your eyes are. I flew NYC to Japan one time and I left my contacts in and had no problem. I even slept for a while and still have no problem. Some people may have there eyes get very irritated though. You just have to decided how it might effect you. Like for example when you have dozed for a while with your contacts in, do you wake up and have your eyes fee irritated? If yes, I would go with glasses, if No.. then you will probably be all right.

And dont worry about how you look. Its not a fashion show, and if someone cares how you look with glasses on an airplane ride they are pathetic. Your comfort/eye health on a 15 hour plane ride is more important then fashion.

Glasses.

If you are really so worried about getting a mockery on arrival, then change it in the toilets after you've arrived.

Get your head out of your backside. You are flying halfway around the world and no one cares how yu look on the plane. Who are you trying to impress? Get one of the many available eyeglass restraints that hold the glasses around your neck for a few bucks. As for your contacts and solution, you can bring that on board as long as it is 3oz. container or less and confined in a one quart kitchen storage bag.

bring both!

contacts you can wear half the ride becuz they get really irretating... and the glasses will be a back up if they get TOO irretating.

you can put your contactz out in the bathroom.

p.s. make sure that the saline solution is already IN the container.

Glasses, omg, go with glasses! Airplane air is super drying and your contacts will stick to your eye balls like velcro.

My eye doc always tells me to wear my glasses on the plane because of the dry air.... so glasses would be my recommendation. I have to admit, though, I sometimes go with my contacts, but usually not on the long flights like the 10 hours to Japan. Be really careful if you do that.... use lots of eye drops etc.... and yes, you can take your eye drops on the plane.

You can bring your contact solutions because they are considered medications and medications can be carried on flights. In the US they are not counted in the rule that liquids must be 3 oz or less and in a plastic bag...but you must declare them to the security agents. Here is the TSA page on traveling with medicines: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/specialneeds/index.shtm

Rules are similar in Europe and the UK. Check here: http://www.gva.ch/en/PortalData/1/Resources//fichiers/publications/publications_informative/20061106_surete-gva_en.pdf or the British Airways site: http://baa.com/

Here is our page on that: http://www.mousetourstravels.com/packing-medications.html and a sample form to help: http://www.mousetourstravels.com/form-to-declare-medications.html

Happy travels!

10 hours with contacts in your eyes can be killer. But if its a must to wear the contacts, then go for it. I do recommend that you put them on 30 minutes before you fly out to Japan.

Make sure you don't lose your glasses incase those contacts irritate you. Infact, if you need to, put your contacts in a cup of water if you cant handle the full trip with them on. I'm sure being liquidized, you can save them when you get more contact solution.
