Could someone survive a plane crash by jumping out just before it crashes?
I know some people will think this is a ridiculous question but I've always wondered --- let's say a Boeing 737 is about to slam nose-dive into the ground and you know you have 0 chance of survival. If you could open one of the doors and jump out just before the plane slams into the ground -- COULD you survive it?
I was told by someone that the person jumping out of the plane would be going the same speed as the plane but I have a hard time believing that if you timed it right it wouldn't be possible....
this is a very interesting question. if it were possible to open the door and jump out if the plane were going to crash i would so jump out. i mean if you stay in the plane your going to die anyways. if you jump out even if the chances are very extremely slim that you live there is still that chance you live rather then staying in the plane and dying. you'll most likely die either way though especially depending on how high you are and rather your above land or water.

You better be extremely lucky... But your friend is right, your speed your be the same as the one of the plane

Mythbusters did something like this about the myth that if your elevator is falling, you can jump at the last moment and save yourself. They proved it to not be true. I assume the same physics would be involved in an airplane crash. And that's not factoring in the fire and flying debris that could probably also still kill you.

in reno about 20 years ago a plane crashed and killed 125 plus.
the only survivor was thrown out before impact and landed sitting in upright position in his seat with seat belt locked on in the middle of highway...
not even a scratch!

what if you survive ?. you could spend the rest of your life as a quad amputee in a wheelchair. or burned so badly death looks pretty good.

well 1st of all how would he reach the door if the plane is facing directly to the ground? well it would be awsome if you did survive but its nearly impossible because of the speed you'd be going would crush you... any type of terrain water sand anything.

If he has wings.

you are going the same speed as the plane. even if you do survive the water or ground (whatever is under you) ill crush almost every bone in your body. and if you don't die from that thee will be flying debris all over the place and some is bound to fly in your direction and take you out

It would make almost no difference jumping. The only change would be that you would hit the ground with less speed. Less by however fast you can jump upwards. So unless you could propel yourself upwards at 100+ mph you would hit the ground with fatal impact.
