Did Air Tran do the right thing with the screaming 3 year old?

I just want to know what people think.

YES! I dont think that the entire rest of the flight, plus the crew, the next plane needing that gate, the destination airport and all other involved people need to be inconvienced over one badly behaved child and parents who cant take descisive action to resolve the situation quickly. However I do not agree with the airline refunding the cost of tickets then flying them for free the next day AND providing a future trip. To me it sounds like this behavior was rewarded.

People think that Air-Tran had no right to do that, but they did. They booked them another flight and did you see them in the interview the kid was climbing all over the parent!! Flying is not a right it's a privilage. Even though they paid for the tickets, the company still has a right to take that away. Have you guys seen the show "Airline" on A&E?? Same thing if they can not let drunk rowdy people on a flight then what makes a 3 year old special. Unfortunately people cannot discipline there kids anymore they say it's abuse. Kids are not the same now-a-days they can get away with murder. Lets hope that if we ever fly the airline would give the same respect to us if there was an unruley child aboard.

Yes- If parents can't control their kids, then the other passengers shouldn't have to suffer!

rhsaunders
Yes. The captain has the ultimate authority in the matter, by law. The temper tantrum was hazardous to other passengers.

It's Me
Absolutely. My 3 year old would never have been allowed to act that way.

Yes, there is a plane full of people who should not have to tolerate any type of loud disturbance, whether it's a child or not.
I know how it feels to sit next to or near a screaming child, after two minutes you want to smother them, it's not their fault though, they are after all children.

apisbelifera
Yes, they were absolutely right . I sat in front of a brat just like that once for 8 hours on a flight overseas .He mostly kicked with his feet under my seat . No matter how often I turned around very little was done about it . Today I would ask for my money back .
They only thing they did wrong was giving them free tickets .

I think the airline was justified and did the right thing. Why should others suffer due to the parent inability to discipline their child. These days parents are too afraid to say "no, sit down and shut it....etc"

Yes they did. The flight has to take off an landed as scheduled. There are passengers on the plane relying upon a timely arrival to make connections.

It is the parent's obligation to prepare the child for the flight, by way of providing plenty of entertainment as well as explaining the rules of the airplane and what is expected.

The parents were unable to manage their child, were inconveniencing the other passengers, the flight staff had few other options.

It is unreasonable to hold up an entire flight schedule for one unruly child.

Absolutely. They made more than one request to have the child seated. The parents were being just as uncooperative as the child and the schedules of 100+ people on board are far more important than one of one disobedient family. They even offered them 3 round trip tickets to any of their destinations but they refused because they have a point they want to make despite the fact that they were probably in the wrong.

If it were a simple matter of the child crying I think that was wrong. I also think that parents should have the ability to control their children but unfortunately that's not always the case. However if the parents were being uncooperative and refused to do as asked, then they should have all been tossed out. There is no room for safety violation on an aircraft. It's no different than a belligerent drunk aboard. Why were they rewarded later with free airline tickets. What message does that send. I think I'll take a grandkid or two with me next trip and fill them full of candy and soda's.

Definitely... and I have a 3 yr old who would be prone to doing something similar.

No they should have flushed it down the toilet

azianrush
I think its wrong. People are just plain cruel. I guess they don't want Air Tran's reputation to be ruined.

There are screaming 3 year olds on planes all the time. They just kicked that family off because they were black and a white family wanted the seats.
