Concorde isn't flying any more.
What you saw was probably either a Typhoon (delta shaped wings) or a Tornado with it's wings swept back.
(Both are much smaller than a Concorde, but looking up at the sky it's a bit difficult to get a sense of size, so you may think that they are bigger than they really are.) |

Sounds like you saw an Avro Vulcan bomber, one of the famous 'V'-Bombers (Valiant,Vulcan, and Victor) There is one flying, which has been restored with funding by public donations of £7million. It has a public display licence, and can be seen displaying at air shows all over Britain, and, of course,it does testing and training flights. I've seen it several times at airshows, and it made a courtesy call at an airport I worked in a few years ago. The Vulcan is a very large delta-winged aircraft that was part of Britain's nuclear bomber fleet, and looks very, very impressive..If you see it doing a low pass at it's slowest flying speed, you'll never forget it. It looks like it ought to be dropping out of the sky at that speed, but it's an illusion. It seems to be flying much slower than it really is,because the plane is so big. It's awesome! So is the noise. The one flying now was retired from the RAF in 1993. The following site has some news and pictures of it. Don't worry about the parking bit, this is a useful news site for lots of airports and planes, and the Vulcan news is the first thing that comes up when you click on the link. http://www.compare-airport-parking.co.uk/news/1122/Vulcan-Bomber-Returns-To-North-West-Skies.html |
