Do I need a passport to fly to Alaska from Arkansas?

No complete answers yet, so here goes:

If you have a direct flight from a US city to a US city (like Minneapolis-Anchorage or Seattle-Anchorage), you DON'T need a passport. Just "government-issued photo ID" like for any domestic flight. Usually a valid driver's license.

But if you have a connection in Canada (Alaska Airlines, for instance, has two flights a day that stop in Vancouver, BC), then you DO need a passport. They won't let you check in for the flights without one.

Once you get here, you don't need a passport for anything, unless you drive to Canada. That's a long drive from Anchorage or Fairbanks and impossible from Juneau, Ketchikan or any of our other "off-the-road-system" towns. If you did drive to Canada before Jan 2008, you'd need a photo-ID and proof of citizenship - like a birth certificate. After Jan 2008 (although I'm guessing that date will slip yet again), they are planning for land-crossing from Canada and Mexico to require a passport.

But heck, get a passport. They're good for 10 years, are the most versatile ID you can have and, if you get a urge to go overseas or see a great web-fare, you'll be all set and won't sweat the delay to get one.

No you do not need a passport to fly from Alaska to Arkansas - you will not be leaving the US

Sagebrush Kid
No. Alaska is part of the United States.

Unless, of course, you're flying via France and plan to get off the pan to toodle around Paris for a few days.

goldie
No--unless you're not an American citizen and then you would need it anywhere in the States.

Considering that Alaska was Russian before the US purchased it.......and btw, geography lesson would be a start.

Sean
No, since you are flying domestic you do not need a passport unless you have a stopover in a international destination.

MoreQuestions
nope....you're flying u.s. to u.s., just international airspace you'd be going through.

mcca5m
No. What you will need is a picture I.D. Alaska is a part of the United States.

Samantha
Last time I checked Alaska is in the United States, so unless that changed, no.
