Yes, if the delay was due to the airline and not weather. You can ask for distressed passenger voucher. |

Major airlines are suppose to offer lodging and meals if they are the cause of a delay like plane problem or no pilots. If it's beyond their control like weather system in the departure or arrival city...they will not provide lodging. |

yes, they all should. I have actually known several people that were given comp nights at a hotel due to flight error. |

Yes, happened to me at Tokyo. Northwest put us all in a hotel. |

According to the DOT the airline is not required to give anything. However each airline has their own contract of carriage outlining their policy. That can usually be found on the airlines website. If the delay was weather, air-traffic-control, a strike or anything alse considered "act of God" they generally offer nothing. |

If both flights are ticketed on the same ticket, the arriving airline should provide an alternative connecting flight within a resaonable time. If accommodation is necessary, it should provide free or discounted hotel accommodation, depending on the circumstances. |

Hah, that's a good one.
They could pressure the airline but chances are they're sol.
If they're lucky they'll get a blanket and a pillow - maybe. Perhaps a cup of coffee.
Tokyo has a nice airport so it shouldn't be so bad for them to hang about 6 hours. |

Sometimes they do, depending on the situation. If they cannot find any other flight for you they will put you up in a nearby hotel only past a certain time. You should have them contact the airline if they do not get their room for free and complain. Usually the airline will bend and give them a free voucher or whatnot for an unsatisfied customer with a good case. |

I beleive they give you a voucher to certain hotels in the area. It differs from airline to airline. |

Yes, and if your parents are in Tokyo right now, how is asking this question on here going to do anything? They are probably already in their Hotel room sleeping. |

That depends on the airlines- and if your parents are resourceful enough to insist on accommodations. |
