I've never done it before, and people say that the security at the airport will ask me to turn it on and stuff, especially since I'm going to travel outside of the US. But I'm going to ...

As a little larger than normal person myself, I do my best to get upgraded to first class every time. Haven't missed an upgrade in over 50 flights.

I saw on that Airline show on A and E two different people who were obese being forced to purchase another ticket when the agents saw their size, one took it pretty well but the other one was livid. I felt bad for the people but would have felt worse for the people being squished during the flight because the obese person was "overflowing" their seat.

Well if you didn't I think the person sat next to you would be a little bit dissapointed..................

No one has to declare their size but it would be considerate. People KNOW when they are heavyset and in my opinion should know they'd be more comfortable if they purchase the two seats they need. Will it be more expensive? YES ofcourse it will be more expensive for them but it's not fair to others for them to take up one and a half seats...

If they need 2 seats then of course they have to let the airline or travel agency know. They will need to request an extension seat belt too.

oh my how sad.
stockholmsyndrome
it's advisable just incase you go to check in and they say you must have 2 seats. If the slight is fully booked you may not get the extra seat and if they say you cant fly on one seat then your stuck waiting for another flight and out of pocket.
its woth a mention

no you will be fine....and don't run yourself down, you could say that you're overweight instead!
At check-in, if the plane is full, the agent will size you up and ask you to buy an extra ticket, or pay for an upgrade to Business Class...
enjoy your flight
