Do flight attendants stay in the cities they fly to, or do they immediately hop another flight?

I'm writing a story that may involve a flight attendant, and I just need to know if they ever spend a day or even two in a city they fly to, or if they are immediately on their way to another city? Any flight attendants out there that can help me? Thanks in advance.

I am not a flight attendant, but I do fly with them everyday. When we get to a city, we will either stay there or do another flight. It will depend on our schedule. We are allowed, domestically, to fly a max of 8 hours per day and be on duty a max of 16 hours, (though our contract limits us to 14.5 hours of duty). If it is the end of the duty day then we will stay at a hotel. If we are scheduled to go back out then we go back out. There really is no good answer as it depends on what day of the schedule you are on. We do 1, 2, 3,or 4 day trips. Obviously on the last day of the trip we will end up back home but on the other days we will stay at a hotel.

For example, a trip I had recently went like this: Day one--CVG to JFK to RDU-- Day Two--RDU to JFK to GSO to LGA to JAX-- Day Three--JAX to CVG to DAY to CVG to DSM-- Day Four--DSM to CVG to GRR to CVG.

Good luck on the book

I think that whether they stay overnight or a few days depends on their schedule. They get a schedule that they work from and if there is time in it, I am sure they probably stay over.

There's a term called Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) that governs pilots and cabin crew. It means that such crew cannot and are not allowed to work beyond that period of work, without a period of rest. This is to ensure flight safety since pilots will be in charge of the aircraft and cabin crew are first responders to any on-board emergency, whether involving a passenger or the entire flight.

Pilots and cabin crew are usually given the time off at the destination or an intermediate stop, if their duty hours for that period have exceeded the FDTL.

In some cases, the flight crew is sent on another flight after a brief rest, while on others, they will be rested for a day or two. In yet other types, especially short duration flights, the crew will be 'turned around' which means, they will return with the aircraft to the airport from which they departed.

It all depends on their schedule, which depends on their seniority. Sometimes they have a turnaround, sometimes they stay for day.

Every flight I've ever been on, I've seen the flight attendants with suitcases. Based on that, I would assume that they are prepared to stay overnight/few days in whichever city they are flying to - maybe due to their schedule, maybe in case of flight delays/cancellations? I'm not completely sure though.

It really depends.
sometimes they fly to one destination and then they take another flight back to where they came from.
or either they take the lfight there. rest for a couple of days before they go to another place.

my avatar's hot!
Usually they just spend the night if they're the last flight in, and fly back to their home base the next day, if it's in the states.

Overseas they might get a day layover.

CHLOE
Depending on how far is the destination and the airline schedule, If the flight time is long, the crew get to lay over for a night or two in the city.
However if the flight time is short, the crew might just do a turn around and return back to base on the same day.

I think flight attendants just say in the city they fly to cuz i remember seeing a group of flight attendants check in at a hotel near the airport before.

AHS_rules!!
Flight attendents will overnight in various places. It is an overnight though, not much time for anything other than grabbing a bite to eat, and sleeping. Nobody gets 2 days off any place other than their home base, so if you wrote in your book that FA's were galavanting around europe for 2 days after flying there, you would be completely wrong.

I work for an airline, we never get more than about 14 hours off at any outstation (and that's usually following a reduced rest day). My aunt is a retired FA, she flew Atlanta - Tokyo, a flight of 14 hours. She would get 24 hours off in Tokyo. Not time to do much of anything.

Good luck on your book.

if the flight is more than eight hrs we would have minimum of a night stop or a few days night stop at the place. it's a rule required by the FTA.
