Geese follow their internal compass. Some think they folow the earths magnetic lines, maybe they have tomtom or some such. They fly in a formation to consrve energy. Just like those silly ppl that cycle round in a veladrome the goose in front exerts the most energy and the others follow it's slipstream, each following goose using a little less energy than the one in front. They change leaders often. They honk encouragement when some tire or stray.

Umm, geese no longer fly - they wait for a sale on AA or on AirTran and take the first flight down. Nah, just kidding. I have noticed that some times, they do search for a particilar nesting ground (the one that they remember from the year before, or the one that they always visit) and as of such, will sometimes fly north or any direction to get to it once they have passed it. Maybe they were heading to their home after eating someplace else? We have ducks in our backyard - they are soo cool. Just I hate the poop. Apart from that, I love them.

they fly over my house all the time and the way the flocks look they must be all male geese because they are all over the sky
