I work for an airline
|
I work for an airline and I get asked questions about photo id all the time. The best place to find out this information is from the airline directly as they are the ones who will say aye or nay to whether you can travel with them. At the end of the day, flying is not the same as catching a bus. Airlines do require that passengers have adequate photo id. I have had a quick look at which airlines fly between Glasgow and London. You can fly with Ryanair Glasgow Prestwick - London Stansted. From Glasgow Int'l you can fly to London City, Gatwick and Heathrow with BA. You can also fly to Gatwick, Luton and Stansted with Easyjet and BMI fly to Heathrow as well.
Photo ID requirements are standardised across the UK, but I have taken the liberty to check on each of the above airlines what their current policies are just to be thorough. All of the airlines do require photo id, but not necessarily a passport. Scotland to England is a domestic flight as it is not leaving the United Kingdom. It does not matter what nationality you are as long as it is a domestic flight. You definitely do not require a passport to fly.
A perfect example is that I have used nothing but my security badge for the airline I work for to go on work-related flights. That is sufficient id within the uk. Other forms of photo id are picture driving licences (both full and provisional), staff cards from nationally recognised companies such as BT or British Gas, NHS badges, government issued id with a photo such as senior citizen bus passes (note, only senior citizen bus passes issued by the local authority -- NOT bus passes issued by the bus company!), college/university ID cards with the name of the university or school on them etc.
If you don't have any of the above probably the easiest and quickest to get would be a Citizen Card. They don't cost as much as a passport or driving licence and you don't need to jump through as many hoops. They normally take up to three weeks but can also be fast-tracked. You can pick up an application form from post offices, pubs, shops, pretty much anywhere where you would need to prove your age, but it also is a handy type of photo id within the UK.
Long and short of it is check with the airline, but also use common sense. You don't need a passport to fly within the UK but you will need verifiable and secure photo id of some kind. |

No, but you do need a valid form of photo ID, which would be your drivers licence. If you don't have this, then the next best thing is your passport. |

No. It's a domestic flight so you don't need your passport unless you're not originally from Britain. Take it with you anyway just incase though. |

Airlines require valid, nationally-issued photo-id, even for domestic flights, before they let you set foot on the plane. In practice this means either a driving license or passport. Check with airline to make sure. |

No, you don't need it because it's a domestic flight. However, if you aren't British, I suppose you will have to show it. |
