Do low cost airlines like Easyjet and Ryanair allocate seat numbers when you check in ? |
Is it a scramble for seats when you board the plane or is it quite civilised ? |

Easyjet do not allocate seats. They issue boarding passes with letters A, B, C and so on. Those people who get to the check-in desk early will be allocated passes in alphabetical order, so the earlier you are the better. You can also pay extra when booking on line for "Speedy Boarding". This will ensure that you are called first, but then if you have to board a bus to the aircraft, it does not guarantee that you will be first off of the bus. In my opinion this "Speedy Boarding" is a waste of money and another money spinning idea for Easyjet. Families with children under 7 are called first. People with disabilities are first to board the aircraft. I have never encountered a scramble for seats.
As for Ryanair. I have never flown with them, so cannot comment on their rules for seating. |

Hi, I dont know about Easyjet, but Ryanair have a system whereas if you dont have any luggage just your briefcase, handbag or a small flight bag they give you priority boarding you get a pass that entitles you to get on the plane one of the first. This is going and coming home. The other passengers are first on you get the better seats that are left. I have just been to Dublin with Ryanair, great airline. |

Both of the airlines pretty much act like busses, whereas there are no assigned seats and they are at a first come first basis.
People will generally be calm as they board the plane, but sometimes you get the people who will rush to get the seat they want. |

I only have experience of Easyjet and they don't allocate seats, but when you check in there is a letter on your boarding pass A, B, C etc. Then when you are boarding you go in groups depending on the letter. Not too bad. |

It is a scramble for seats on both Easyjet and Ryanair, but as others have suggested the boarding pass has either a number or letter. When boarding, they ask for people with specific numbers or letters at a time. |
