Do the recent plane crashes put you off flying?

Here in Australia we have the famous Qantas Airline. Over the last year they have had lots of mishaps including a flight descending suddenly in mid-air,and a few others that occured all within months, although none of the mishaps were deadly, i still choose to not fly Qantas anymore. Qantas even employed a safety inspector or someone of the sort who ended up being caught out of not having any qualifications to do his job accurately.I mean, how unsafe is that! Luckly, there are many other airlines, not to mention, better ones... *Virgin Blue*... Thanks, :)

Since I know the facts and ignore the sensationalism of television, these recent crashes have no effect on my attitude towards flying at all. Sometimes planes crash, but overall flying is extremely safe, so a crash now and then is not a reason to avoid flying.

There are many more people dying every day in car crashes than there are in plane crashes even every year, but that doesn't seem to put most people off driving a car.

No, flying is actually safe, and if you hear there is a plane crash, we get all scared, but when we hear there is a car accident, we don't. Do you see what I am saying?

No, I will be getting on an airplane this Thursday. Flying is alot safer than driving.

Not at all. These crashes were all of causes which were either rare or pilot errors. The Continental crash was probably because ice formed on the airplane. Well, usually ground crew deices the airplane so its safe enough to fly. US Airways flight 1549 was because a bird flew into the engine. Usually birds are "shooed" away from the airport. They don't appear that often, which I feel safer about. Continental 3407 was because the pilots mistakenly kept the airport on autopilot after ice formed on the wings. It was their fault the airplane crashed.

I trust airport authority and ground crew to make air travel safe.

No. It's still safer than driving by a long way.

No, I don't think so. Everything in life carries a risk, and if you aren't ready to take a risk (even if it's a really small one...I mean air travel is VERY safe) then you'll miss out! These highly covered plane crash stories are probably the only ones that you'll hear about for awhile, because planes just don't crash that often.

Pilot
Absolutely not. Flying is safer than driving. Until the recent Continental crash, there were no fatalities in the airline industry in 2 years.
