Do you agree with United Airline's proposed rule to make morbidly obese?

people buy 2 tickets because they make the plane too cramped?

i agree but they should have a rule for screaming babies, and people with bad body oder also

what do you think?

You mean they're going to start doing what every other airline has been doing for years. I wonder why this is suddenly news.

Space on a flight is sold by the seat. You need two, you pay for two. I'm 6'7", and find the seats accommodating for people of average size. Most Americans aren't of average size.

Here's another way of looking at it. At 6'7", I must buy clothing in tall sizes. Because of that, I pay more for clothing than "average" sized people. The clothing manufacturers use more material in making those tall sizes. Should I have to pay more? Of course. I'm getting more. My height is they way I was born. I didn't get there with a poor diet, yet I'm not going to complain about it.

If you require the extra space it should be the airliner's option to charge for the extra usage, and inconvenience to other paying customers. As for the babies, you were once a baby too I hope, and that can't be avoided. But no they can't, and should not charge extra for them. Now the body odor is different, that should be non negotiable, and not allowed unless they have seats in the cargo area.

I do not believe in discriminating against anyone for any reason. Slim people do make fun of overweight people and it is terrible. However, the real world is not always a beautiful place. Airlines have never cared about customer service. They make the seats as small as possible to get as many people on the plane as possible. Some airlines also consider this as another means of making some money. Anyone who as every travel on an airplane know how crowed the seats are even with slim or skinny people. It is less comfortable when the person next to you is too large for their seat.

The airlines should only charge for an extra seat if that person actually takes up an extra seat requiring someone to be bumped. Airlines should compensate the bumped person so the overweight person should pay for 2 seats. If no one volunteers to be bumped, then the airline should make arrangements with the overweight person to take another flight that is not full. If the plane is not full, then you should adjust seating arrangements so that the overweight person can have some extra room. This may sound unfair, but it is reality.

I don't think 2 tickets is the way to go, it's unfair and insults the passenger.

I want the airline to abandon the "one size fits all" policy. Some people are heavy others are skinny.

Some seats should be bigger, other maybe even narrower than today. Bigger seats of course more expensive, narrower seats cheaper than the standard seat.

It's easy to do the math, instead of three seats, have two and charge 50% more. This is fair to everybody and does not insult the heavy person with a 100% surcharge.

I agree with the proposal. It's an extra seat that they could have sold to someone else.

As much as I detest the screaming babies and people with bad body odor, it's not the same thing.

dtrek
I agree with you but let us not forget about taller people who end up pushing there knee's into the back of our seat and how about a discount for midgets because they take up less space and lets make people who snore if they sleep on the plain pay extra or people who argue I see no reason why they will not start going in these directions if they get away with this

I don't think they should have to pay extra you don't have to pay extra if you go to a buffet and eat twice as much its the same for everyone.. so what if you take up two seats maybe the seats shouldn't be so damn small.. just because skinny people fit in.. well not everyone is skinny.. the babies and the bo that's annoying to but everyone has been a baby and BO just sucks..they do need to sit alone.. its a stereotype that all fat people stink..i am built but i have a lot of obese family and i love them all and hate to see them limited to what they aren't allowed to do because of their size and id be a little upset it they had to pay extra because they are the same as everyone else just a little more to love.

No I do not agree with it. I think it is discrimenatory. Most average or skinny people look at an over weight person and say "oh, its their fault they just couldnt hold back on the twinkies." But some people are over weight due to conditions that are out of their control. Dont you think it is embarrassing enough for them to have to try to squeeze through the aisle anyways let alone have to pay extra for an extra seat. I would imagine I would be very embarrassed if it was me. Although I understand that person taking up the extra seat is potential money that the air line could have got extra for an extra body sitting there but I just feel it is unfair and everyone should have the right to fly and be comfortable when they fly and if it takes two seats to cover one person then they should just let it go.

etherb75
They aren't doing it for passenger comfort, regardless of what they might say. They are doing it because:

1) No one wants to sit next to the fatty and will sue for inability to use the seat they have paid for.
2) The extra weight on the chubster uses more fuel and they need to make up for the costs.
3) Airline bookings are down and this is a good way to "fatten" the passenger load, so to speak

Follow the money. Businesses are for-profit enterprises. Anything they do is to further that end.

BO and crying babies don't cost the airline money. Nose plugs or pot-pourri and ear plugs or noise reduction head phones can address those two issues.

Absolutely. Do you know what it's like for the poor bastard who has to sit next to some stinky fat mess for 5 hours? Fat people deserve all the **** they get in this world. They can't stop shoveling food in their mouths while half the world is starving to death, and they're a huge drain on the health care system, so screw 'em.
