Do you need a passport to fly from Northern Ireland to mainland UK?
My brother has an interview with Liverpool University in January & he hasn't got a passport someone said he'd be ok with identity within the UK, is that correct? Additional Details Thanks for all the answers so far, anyone travel to or from N.I from mainland UK recently tho, have there been any changes since security was tightened?
you definately need a passport, it used to be photo ID but now you do need a passport.

Dont think you need one as NI is part of UK
nigel h
you don't need one - I've been to NI and no-one checked.

It depends upon the airline he intends to fly with. You need to approach them as some will now only accept passports (ie Ryanair) and others will accept a photo driving licence (ie flybe). You need to check with the airline as it is at their discretion what they count as valid photo id on internal flights and they will be able to give you 100% the correct answer!

Photo id will be ok.

No he does not need a passport but he will need some form of photo ID. It would be sensible to check in advance with the airline what ID they will require.

smilingireland
No, but you may be asked for photo id
daddybear
You need a passport for any internal flight in the UK - even mainland to mainland. Check with the airline - see what they will accept as an alternative.
just_wondering20
You can use any form of photo ID. A driving licence for example.
