You need photo ID so a driving licence with your photo on is OK, or anything else official with your photo and address on may do but I'd ring to check with the airline as to what items they'd accept |

Unfortunately, since 9/11 (and before that if truth be known), airlines have a habit of asking for "proof of identification" for "security reasons" before they will let you check in, even on domestic flights. This must have a photograph on it. As far as UK citizens are concerned there are only two documents that qualify - a passport or a new-style photo driving licence. Depending on the airline, certain other forms of ID are permitted such as the "CitizenCard" or a recently-out-of-date passport that expired within the past year. Welcome to Tony Blair's Britain. It sucks, doesn't it? And if he gets his way, you'll soon end up having to show ID to make a train journey in this country too most likely!!! |

No, you don't need it for domestic flights but you have to have approved photographic ID which is either a drivers licence(provisional is ok) or passport. So you may as well carry a passport If in doubt check with your airline it should say on their website |

I absolutely guarantee that you need photographic identification: a new style driving license or indeed your passport. Merely for identification.............. There is very little else (if anything) possessed by UK citizens that will suffice. |

If you want to be sure, take the passport with you. We tried to fly from England to Scotland and weren't allowed to board as my partner didn't have an up to date passport. Apparently another document with a photo on would have done (e.g. new-style driving licence). |
