Do you think that airlines should create a weight limit for passengers? |
Weight matters in flying. With obesity on the rise do you think that airlines should create a weight limit and charge an extra fee for being overweight? This includes people who are overweight because of muscle. Additional Details This is not meant to be a personal attack on anyone or any group its just a thought. Don't take offense. |

That's discrimination, but the airlines should have a policy that if I'm buying a seat on a cross country trip, why should I be unconfortable if the person next to me is "spilling" into MY space??
They should buy 2 seats, or fly First Class.......Period. That's NOT discrimination, if THEY choose to be that big, then they can PAY for 2 bodies accomodation for the seats.
Overweight and obesity does NOT happen overnight. You don't go to bed weighing 165 and wake up weighing 375.....that happens over time.....
It's sad that excuses for excessive weight abound more than sensible eating habits these days.....
Eat to live, don't live to eat.........
EDIT: Obviously, A LOT of folks that are answering have NOT flown in a while......the last flight that I took, seriously might be the LAST flight I'll ever take.....Or I'll fly First Class and buy BOTH seats for my muscular frame.......That way I can't complain that someone is "spilling" onto/into me......

You know the answer is simple. It is discrimination. Why don't they have bigger seats? |

they do charge but there are more important things the airlines need to worry about than if some one is fat and look at it this way most of the time the airplanes are 1/2 full any way
ps to the person b4 me who said they should charge for rude people all i have to say is u shouldn't be flying stay in ur house and never see the outside world again its full of people and ur not going to like all of them so get used to it |

no. some people aren't overweight because they want to be overweight. Some people have illnesses. Besides, even if all the passengers were overweight, their mass would still pale in comparison to all the cargo, and the plane could definitely support the weight. |

They should also charge more for rude people, people who fart, people who talk too loud or listen to their mp3's so loud the whole plane can hear. People with whining kids. And those who smell bad. .
They could really make some money on that. |

no because that is very offensive to people that are overweight or even if you're not overweight you still might not like being weighed. i suppose you are not overweight as you obv. wouldn't mind being weighed....... |

If the weight matters so much in flying, then what is charging an extra fee going to do? It's surely not going to make the weight of the passenger go down. |

i think that they should inform people that one seat will support so much weight, and if you exceed this weight, then you should purchase another seat (for an extra fee, the the entire cost of a seat because that would be absurd and too expensive for one person) for saftey reasons of weight regulations, and to ensure comfort of themselves and other passengers. if the flight does not fill to capacity, then a refund of said fee could be available.
i think the main reason that people get upset because so many people rant about this and treat them like lower class citizens, and also that they should be counted as two people can be highly insulting. i think that charging a fee to cater to their needs and to conform to safety regulations would be more respectful. if overweight people were treated more respectfully over this issue i think they would cooperate a lot easier than they do now. people dont seem to realize how insensitive their words can be. |
