I DO IT TOO!! Working for a major airline, I see some nasty **** on planes! I'm not going to tell you how many times I have had to clean up vomit from the seats, armrests, tray tables, and even the air knobs!!
An airplane is the nastiest thing in the world! I wouldn't recommend touching anything without cleaning it.
Also never use the LAV!! I've had to clean up crap that was spread all over the bathroom one time. So don't feel weird. If anything, tell those people to **** off that you are not risking getting a cold or worse from being exposed to those germs. |

Just don't mind those who stare at you. If you want clean surroundings, go ahead, wipe them of. Just make sure that you throw away your wipes into the trash can. |

I fly often (too often). I suspect your seatmates wished they'd thought of bringing personal supply of saniwipes too. |

Not silly at all, should be a requirement for everyone prior to being seated at and soon after. |

I don't think it is silly though my wife hates it when I do!
If the seat is leather I wipe the headrest with the hot towel. You'd be surprised how brown that towel gets with one modest wipe!
There's no doubt aircraft are filthy places to spend an extended period of time, especially shorthaul where aircraft don't get properly cleaned after each flight. Even on some longer flights they don't get anything much. My wife and I flew Anchorage to Dallas on American Airlines in July and (the flight arrives from Dallas and goes straight back) even after a 6hr+ flight in the only things done to make it cleaner were to fold up the blankets and place them on the seats again! My seat, drinks table between seats and floor area were covered in various detritus.
I know someone who flew Emirates and opened up a plastic wrapped blanket to find partly dried vomit on it! These things aren't always cleaned, they are just visually inspected to see whether they are dirty or not.
My father flew with a well known Hollywood actress from London to Los Angeles several years ago and she wore gloves and wiped down the areas of the seat before settling in. She wiped down glasses and plates before accepting them and drank her own bubbly (which she brought with her). Maybe a little OCD... |

I don't think it's silly there are huge amounts of germs on airplanes and the staff don't wipe down the seats thoroughly after every flight. |

Another silly thing - if you saw your friend Jack at the other end of the plane - would be to shout "Hi Jack !" |

NOT AT ALL! I'm a Flight Attendant and I see what goes on in those seats...I see poeple pic their nose, change dirty diapers, pic their teeth, they even go to the bathroom and don't wash their hands....they come on with the FLU ( no wonder we get sick alot) cough, sneeze, vomit and eat in those seats.
I say bring a whole pack of clorox wipes and more power to you! |

It is a bit weird that you must santaize the area before taking seat. People probably think that you have a OCD. But on the other hand, i understand what you mean when you don't know what has been there. You are onyl loooking out for your health. But i think you relax. |

Theres nothing wrong with that. Some just like their things clean while some just dont care |

Frankly, you are more likely to become ill from your fellow passengers who sneeze and wheeze and cough. However, if it makes you feel better to do a bit of a wipe-down, go ahead. And if anybody asks you about it you can say that the chemo really made you weak so this is the only way you're allowed to fly right now! If other people are rude enough to ask, you can tell them a lie, right? |

No silly, but you should know that most airlines do require their aircraft to be disinfected before boarding passengers. So its clean if thats what you mean. So its a waste of time and money. |

you're overreacting, i would also look at someone weird if they did that. Have you ever heard of people dieing from germs they get on an aeroplane? No! there are germs everywhere get over it. Just take a shower everyday and wash your hands a lot. |

They do that for you already when they clean the plane. That's why boarding takes so Freaking long. |
