Christine

Do you wish airline companies would start advertising again with the 100% cost of a flight?

Instead of what we have now, i.e flights advertised as 1c end up costing €62
Additional Details
I should add I know this started out as a very clever advertising gimmick, but now we all know its just that,...a gimmick

No, I don't. I prefer having my costs itemized, so I know exactly how much each airport gets, security charges, immigration services, customs clearance charges, and other governmental nickel-and-dime fees that I feel are often rip-off charges compared to the services actually received.

Every time I see eyesore construction (and it's nearly every airport), or airports lacking jetbridges--yet charging the same as similar-sized airports that do offer them, or seem as if they've not been updated in 20 years, I think "...and what is my airport fee getting me for my money now, today?" When I see long queues time and time again for security or immigration or customs, I think "What, are they surprised this many people show up every day that they can't manage to put more officers on duty? My fee cost me 1.5 hours waiting...." By making all of these charges and fees invisible in the price of the "ticket" (which of course is more than just the ticket), it makes it more difficult to have some direct accountability for each of these fees and charges.

I *do* however like the idea of making a clear disclaimer that "fees and taxes can add $x to $xx to this fare. Actual costs will be displayed before you must decide if you want to book." And to their credit, many airlines already do this.

====== updated

When larger airlines offer similar fares with all fees included (ie, a 2p fare becomes 59 quid, and that's the same as Air France charges all-inclusive of fees), remember that Air France or BA or whoever would not dream of having fares this cheap if it weren't for the likes of Ryanair, Easyjet, et. al. I remember what intra-Europe airfares were like before low-cost airlines arrived on the scene. Brussels to Copenhagen, for example, was $450 USD one-way with 7 days advance purchase. Today, it's under $100 USD--thanks to Sterling.

Guitar Lady
Yes, absolutely - I have just booked flights for me and my friend to go to Ireland. They were advertised as 1p in one direction and £15 in the other. By the time they had finished adding on tax, baggage payment(!) and everything else, it was actually £149!

nativexile
The reason why they continue doing it is because they realise us Brits (will always) think we're 'sorted' by travelling with them. Some of us never learn...as much as we grumble with our flaked skin after a week in Málaga, we know we'll be back to the same part of the world with a ''only £10, boys 'n' girls" skank next year...or later on in this one!

it is a pain in the ar$e...I'm amazed people are putting up with such poor service too.
As a society we are expecting higher and higher standards, when it comes to our food, shops, credit cards, banks, schools, cars, public transport, the list goes on and on, and yet we are willing to put up with shabby aeroplanes rude staff, and rip off extras.

So yeah, just tell me the price and baggage limit, and let me fly

Yes I do, I had gone through the whole process thinking it was going to be 103 euros, by the time everything else was added on it became 158 euro, very annoying, I have eventually got the flight at 116e. It is very frustrating.

I so wish they would, we've paid over £300 in taxes and fuel Levy's for our holiday at Easter, makes me sick, time to go back to basics I think.

I agree with you, These airline adverts should tell us the proper prices, We should be given the correct details. and not kept in the dark.

I quite agree. The other day I saw Ryanair's flights to and from Berlin for 1p each way. When you added in 'taxes' and the baggage fees it came to £59 return, which is exactly the price quoted by BA for the same dates.

buggerlugs
your right- i see many flights quite cheap but after 10 minutes of putting your details in -ie on the internet-they start adding taxes-transfers-meals-transfers-then you see the final cost and its gone up a fortune-gets my goat too

Technophobe
I agree with you - it's a pain. Lots of airlines are still doing it though.

Unfortunately the airlines do this to catch your eye.
It is impossible to show the full price including all the different airport taxes because that would depend on your full itinerary.
Best thing to do is add a minimum of £50 to the price quoted, and that shud give u a rough idea of the total figure unless ur going somewhere like ths states when you need to add about £150
