No because for one you would need an Internet connection and you cant get one. Second if you could get Internet the airline wouldn't let you because it would interfere with the computers.

Because the airlines don't allow any devises that transmit or recieve a signal, IM wouldn't be allowed on a plane.

Duh airlines don't allow phones or laptops on during a flight incase it messes with the computers they have got in the cockpit please donot switch on your phone or laptop during a flight thank you think of your other passengers
