Does a 15 year old need to show an I.D. to board a plane?

My sister is traveling from texas to D.C and has no I.D. She only had a high school student I.D. Can she still get on a plane with only that I.D? Or what else does she need?

You do not need to be 16 to travel unaccompanied on a plane however she will need a proper ID (aka a State issued ID) if she is travelling unaccompanied. If she's travelling with your family then her school ID will be fine.

a student ID should work

Depends on the airline. All I had to do was show my passport and boarding pass thought when I traveled abroad this summer.

She needs some sort of ID. And yes they will accept her high school ID. But when she turns 16 she has to have either a state ID or a license to fly

sometimes depends on the airline

I do not know of any airline that has an age requirement of 16...they all let teens travel alone at 14. Yes , a student I.D. is fine. You can also call her specific airline and ask them. It is wise for teens who will be travelling to get a state I.D. card.

You DO NOT need a passport considering it's domestic, but I.D. is needed, she HAS to be accomponied, register her to airline peronel, go on airlines website for more info, and she needs to show boarding pass and ticket.

yes! However, the regulations for most airlines is that you must be atleast 16 years of age to travel alone!

yes that id will work for her, that's what i used to use.

Erica
Not sure check with the airline but if they want more than a HS id it's easy to get a state id from a tag agency

my neice is 12 and has been flying alone since the age of 8. She has never needed ID. I just take her to the gate and they out her on the plane.

She should bring her birth certificate just to be safe. Are her parents taking her to the airport? If so, they can check in for her since she is a minor. I checked my daughter in when she was 16 and was never asked for her IDn they just used mine. I know some kids that were required to show their birth certs so she should bring it just to be safe.

TokioHotel♥
well i thought you had to be 16 to travel alone.
