Does a 17 year old have to show an id on a plane?

If someone that is older buys you the ticket but you are 17 do you have to show your id to board the plane?

Also if you don't have an id what happens?

Yes, I would bring an ID. Technically, no you do not need an ID if you are under 18, but it is better to carry one anyway. Many people will assume that you are an adult, unless you look extremely young for your age, so they will be asking you for your ID.

Okay here is the correct answer
Since you are 17 years old by law you are not required to have ID, you cannot be denied boarding of the plane as long as you are with your parents if you don't have an ID. But since you are 17 you will probably look near the age of 18 so I would bring an ID just so there are no problems. Since you are under 18 any picture ID will be fine, but once you turn 18 you need a state of federal government issued ID. If you are flying internationally you will need a passport.

NO...those under 18yrs of age are not required to show ID for domestic flights. If you have a school ID, then great! Bring that just to make it easier on yourself, but it is not required. If you are traveling internationally, THEN you need a passport as ID.

Hope this helps...

just use your school id. since you are a minor that is allowed. bring a copy of your birth certificate as well. But if you're traveling international you need a passport. But otherwise you're fine. I'm only 15 and i'm leaving tomorrow and i'm jus using a schoool id.

Show your birth certificate if you don't have a driver's license or passport.

Pre-high school you do not need an idea, but you dont look 14 i bet, so you need a school/or other government issued ID to show before security.

Jon
you have to show an ID before you even reach the boarding area. they will asked for your ID while you check in your luggage. Make sure the name on your boarding ticket matches your ID

You have to show your ID BEFORE being allowed to board the plane. If your ID does not match your ticket/boarding pass, you won't get on the plane.

ilessthanthreeyou
yes you will need it! you may have to show it twice....a school id, passport, state id, or driver's license is ok

First of all, you haven't even indicated which country you're in.

Simple -- if you're flying you need photo-ID and in most countries you need a passport to get on board most airlines even where the government doesn't demand it because the airlines do. And that applies whether you're three or 93

I;m sure you [everyone] must have a current ID or licence to show before you can even get to the gate to board the plane. If you don;t have i.d. then i;m sure they would refuse you.If you can go get an id as they will give you a temporary or if you;ve had one and lost it; you may be able to get it right there. That;s what they did when i lost my licence..If your going to another country even as Canada you even have to have a pass-port.Since 9-11 alot of things have changed like this and it;s suppose to be for the good of everyone; but sometimes it;s a hassle' but at least you;ll know whose on the plane and if they have weapons or not.,. good luck with this,.,.,.,

everybody has to have an id to get on a plane...even a 4 year old. if you don't have an id no plane ride for you.
