Does a handbag count as hand luggage or can I take a hand bag and a cabin bag.?

Flying from the UK to Italy

Easy answer to this is to put handbag into hand luggage, and make sure that it is still within weight restriction of 5kg.

dancingcar
Flew to Tenerife last month, one piece of hand luggage only. You can carry handbag inside cabin bag.

Safety First
It does indeed count as two bags - the trick is to leave sufficient space in your cabin bag to put your handbag in whilst you going through the checks.

lanashantell
The guideline is you are able to take one carryon, and one personal item, your handbag is your personal item. and your carry on, is your computer, or whatever you want it to be. Hopes this helps a bit!

If you are departing from Heathrow, you are only allowed one bag on the plane, no matter what airline. This means your purse is considered a second bag.

Other airports allow two.

Veronica Alicia
You are allowed only 1 piece of hand luggage; put your handbag inside your flight bag or do as I did on my two flights this year - I packed my handbag flat for use away, wore a purse on my jeans belt and stuffed odds and ends in my coat pocket. My belt came off to go through the scanner. You can no longer carry a camera nor an umbrella
All coats must be removed to go through the scanner.
Are you aware of the limits on creams, liquids, etc. which must be carried in a resealable plastic bag? EU regulations.

At Heathrow handbags have to be put in your 1 cabin bag.

As a general rule the answer is YES. I always put my handbag into my cabin bag to go through security. Once through, you can have handbag and cabin bag.

It just makes it much quicker and easier for the security staff, therefore making it much quicker for you to get to the duty free shops.

Depends on the airline and the whims of the check in staff. Generally speaking you can take a piece of handbaggage + a handbag but some people push the limits of a 'handbag' and try to claim a small suitcase is actually a handbag.
It's best to enquire with the airline online stating the exact dimensions of your handbag and its weight and print off their response as evidence.

cherub
You can take the handbag and the hand luggage.

Each passenger is restricted to carrying only one item of cabin baggage through the airport search point with a maximum size of 56cm x 45cm x 25cm. Other bags, such as handbags, may be carried within the single item of cabin baggage.

Jamaican Girl_19_Go Asafa&Bolt
yes u can take both

millet_0220
you can take a cabin bag plus your handbag

TeganMc
Normally you can take hand luggage under the restrictions an one carry on item such as a laptop or handbag.

I've just done 8 flights over 4 weeks between England and Australia and had both handbag and hand luggage on each flight, I had no problems at all, have a good holiday.

SAPPER
Generally you are allowed only ONE piece of hand luggage, handbags should be inside this one piece, having said that on a recent flight my wife struggled to pack her handbag inside her fight bag, only to find people boarding the plane with a handbag plus hand luggage, Guess it depends if you face fits or not.

put your handbag..in your other carry-on. NOw you only have ONE carryon and are entitled to another. Waist Packs don't coun because they are considered clothing and do not interfere with you wearing a seat belt.

I just fly from UK to Italy and they made me put my purse into my hand luggage or they would not let me though sercuity. They only allow one bag person thats it

private_jet_charter
I believe that you are allowed on carry on luggage piece plus your handbag. You may want to check directly with your airline as to make sure.

last year i took a handbag and a cabin bag on the flight. think its still the same but i went before the bomb scare at heathrow. been told though that handbags and cabin bags are acceptable. remember restrictions on liquids though. probably best to put handbag in cabin bag. weight limit is 5kg. have a lovely holiday

Depends on the airline (as does much else these days!)
Ask direct (or via the Internet) for the information you require.
Have a good trip.
