Does a twenty month old baby pay fare for an international flight?

I told the child's mother that the baby pays too!!! she argued with me and told me that that is not true, if the baby is on her lap!

All she is worrried about is applying for the passport.

Is it half price or what's the deal, all i know it's not free!!!

Yes she will have to pay some taxes for the lap child aka "missile" as refer ed to amongst most crew members.
only domestic flights allow children under the age of 2 to travel completely free, International is a whole different world in air travel.
she needs to contact the carrier to advise them she is traveling with an infant, just let her know if they show up at the airport and have not pre arranged this they very well may not be going anywhere I guess though they could leave the infant with security check point until they return.
It's my belief that anyone who travels with an infant on their lap should be reported to the department of family services. If something were to happen God forbid, there is no physical way a parent can keep hold of their child whilst sitting in their lap that baby will become a projectile.

Lap children are generally free only on domestic flights in the US.

On virtually all airlines on international flights, lap children will have to pay a fare, and most impose a charge of 10% of the full-fare price in the parent's cabin. While it may or may not be expensive in coach, lap children in business or first might get a hefty charge (considering some first fares are $15,000+, that's $1,500+ just for the child!).

I also agree that if you can't afford to buy the child a seat, you shouldn't be flying. I've seen what turbulence can do to the cabin ceiling with a service cart... I can only imagine how a child's body would turn out.

You have to pay after the child is 24 months.

Sorry, but you're wrong. If the child is under 2 years old and will sit on the mother's lap for the duration of the flight, then the child flies free.

No, you generally start paying for a child when the child is 3 years and over. However, if you wanted the baby to have a seat, you would have to pay. It doesn't matter how old a child is - if you want him to have a seat, you have to pay for it.

peapod13
you would (or rather she should) ask the airline

johN p. aka-Hey you.
I think the parents pay, unless the kid has his own bank account.

Most 20 month old children do not have jobs to buy airline tickets. How can a 20 month old pay for a ticket?
