Does anyone know if passengers departing from uk airports are subjects to passports checks?

it they are on internal flights a driving license or an European ID card should be accepted but most commonly it is a passport check.

Of course they are,everyone is unless its a domestic flight, e.g you are going somewhere else in the Uk.

Yes ... and body searched! Shoes, hats and all hand luggage get scanned.

Yes you have to show them at check in, passport control and with your boarding card before you get on the plane.

Yes, but it does not happen all the time.. you must show a valid photo ID.. sometimes authorities are performing a check with the passports just after the Xray machines.

You will be asked for your Passport at check in and certainly prior to boarding.Most times at passport control they do ask for your Boarding pass and sometimes your passport.on a bad day you may be asked for your Passport 10 times it does happen and rightly so.Wonder why you asked such a question.

If you are refused entry at your destination the Airline get a large fine. So they check your passport.

I used to live in the U.K. Most countries do passport checks on leaving. Only the U.S. doesn't, that I've taken note.

I assume that you meant "departing from U.K. airports" you meant "departing from the U.K." If it's a domestic flight, in other words, from one U.K. airport to another, the answer is no. You do have to show some sort of I.D. at check-in and then clear security but there isn't any need to go through immigration, even if you are not a U.K. citizen.

Just to make things even more complicated, if you noticed in Europe, that you can travel between quite a few countries without immigration checks. The U.K. is NOT one of the "Schengen" countries which signed on to this open borders agreement. I don't want to write too much more on this subject, in case it doesn't pertain but here's more info;

The way you worded the question is why there is confusion. Even as a EU citizen (French), I have to go through immigration when entering the U.K. If you have a Schengen visa, it wont work in the U.K. You'd need a separate visa, if you need one at all.

Contrary to the advice you have received from everyone else, the correct answer is no. The Border and Immigration Agency do NOT conduct passport checks on outbound passengers. Generally speaking however most airlines verify that you have a passport to avoid problems at the other end, and to verify identity. This is different from France, for example, where police conduct passport checks on both outbound and incoming passengers.

Note that you NEED a passport if you are leaving the UK, since you will not be able to get into any other country, or back into the UK, if you don't have one.

Please note that I am answering the question asked: the question was not "will anyone ask to see my passport", nor was it "do I need a passport".
