During the recent airport scares on liquid, does anyone know WHAT exactly were we allowed to take on by hand? |
Additional Details I'm curious and annoyed by either slack security or over enthusiatic security. Before the relaxing of the security measures recently, my neice was allowed to take either MILK or baby food for her 6 month old son, not both, on a 4 hour flight. Which to me, in the interest of security, should've been all or nothing, then she was told to buy CALPOL in sachets as they wouldn't allow the bottle, then told she could only take 2 of the 12 sachets she bought at the airport...something doesn't add up in these security measures, if they were worried about babies being used as a cover...what were the security guidelines exactly?

It is my understanding that when the story broke about the UK bombers using Liquid explosives that each local jurisdiction when ape in it's own special way. As per usual with Homeland Security there was no national coordinated plan. The risk of liquid explosives mixed on a plain in flight is quite overrated anyway. There are easier ways to get items on a plane. |

It all depends on which airport they went through... what the little signs said was that anyone traveling with a child under the age of 2 could bring baby food in jars and formula or breast milk 4 ozs or less.
Everything else... you could not take liquid past security or on or off planes |

this is for stateside travel: just came out 25 september 2006

TSA Is Adjusting The Ban On Liquids
Aerosols And Gels
There are two major changes:
1. Travelers may now carry through security checkpoints
travel-size toiletries (3 ounces or less) that fit comfortably in ONE, QUART-SIZE, clear plastic, zip-top bag.
2. After clearing security, travelers can now bring beverages and other items purchased in the secure boarding area on-board aircraft.
At the checkpoint travelers will be asked to remove the zip-top bag of liquids and place it in a bin or on the conveyor belt. X-raying separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items.
In addition, larger amounts of prescription liquid medications, baby formula and diabetic glucose treatments must be declared at the checkpoint for additional screening.
It is unlikely that additional changes in the liquid, aerosol and gel policy will be made in the near future.
This security regimen applies to all domestic and international flights departing U.S. airports. Travelers should, however, check with transportation security authorities in their country-of-origin for flights originating at non-U.S. airports. |

Dave, did ya notice in the news over the past couple of days that the FAA and TSA have relaxed the carry-on restrictions? As I understand it, if you can purchase it in an airport store, you can carry it on. Suggest you go to any news organization website for details, OR, call the airline you're thinking about using.

It's like that film: Air plane, stop and search old nuns, babies etc etc, whilst terrorists are allowed to walk on with machine guns and rocket launchers. |
