Engines on 777? |
Apart from the obvious 2 engines, does a 777 have any more for in an emergency |

OK - as always - too many that do not understand reply to this question...
In the case of an emergency, the aircraft has something known as a RAT (Ram Air Turbine) located on the ctomach of the aicraft that deploys in the event that the engines are not functioning (working as a propeller) to power some of the necessary functions of the plane. It is tiny, and provides no thrust to the aicraft, and is only used in emergencies. There are no other sources of thrust on the aircraft. There is not a 3rd engine.
Now, with that said - understand that most 777s are ETOPS certified to a level of at least 120 mins. This basically translates to the fact that in an event in which one of the aircraft's engines fails to function, the plane can safely operate for 120 mins on one engine until it needs to land. Now, consider this - that gives the aircraft 2 hours to land. That is alot of time! And for quite a few airlines, they have far surpasssed that 120 minute rating! |

And where do you think they keep them?
In the block box, just take them out and strap them on using a universal spanner?
Alexi - have you not seen the news - we are talking about a 777 that had TWIN engine failure - try equating that into minutes of airtime!!!! |

No, just the two. Given the reliability of jet engines, if both fail at the same time, it's not an engine problem and it wouldn't matter if a plane has 2 engines or 4. |

No just the two. My brother is an airline pilot and they refused to transfer to 777's for cross atlantic flights as it is deemed too dangerous on two engines to be stuck over water. |

No just the two. |

No, a 777 only has two engines. There the largest engines made for commercial aviation. |

With two engines can do "long haul" but must not be more than 3 hours from alternate landing site. |
