no they shouldnt, the ticket is sold to the person and not by weight of the person, and hey sometimes its not the fault of someone being overweight, ever heard of medical conditions?. you know, bit like the medical conditions your elders are going through, (or probably will) coz itl happen to us all soon!
its just another way of the big companies wanting to make even more money. so there. |

They do. They have to buy two seats if they are really big. |

We don't call them "fat people". We refer to them as "obese passengers".
This is a touchy subject among most above average size people. F/As must be very diplomatic when dealing with their special needs. We discreetly offer seatbelt extensions.
A well known Canadian Singer from Cape Breton proudly carries her own hot pink seatbelt extension when she travels. Good for her! You go, girl!
Sometimes obese passengers will not identify their special needs at the time of ticket purchase for whatever reason.
Some try to press their luck hoping to get out of purchasing an additional seat. Or sometimes they hope a kind F/A will offer them a comp upgrade to a wider seat, free of charge.
Sometimes passengers will book on the internet and not be aware of all policies. Few people like to make it known that they are obese. So sometimes that issue is not dealt with until they Check in or worse, board the Aircraft. And then we must deal with it, as diplomaticly as possible...
I don't know what should or shouldn't be...I only know what is...And deal with it the best I can!
PS:
It is NOT accurate to say that we seat obese passengers as far as possible from the emergency exits! ***That is REDICULOUS!*** We do however, select "Able Bodied Passengers" to be seated and specially briefed at emergency exits. This selection is based on many factors and not primarily by the size or shape of the passenger! |

not if they only take up 1 seat, no! if they need 2 then yes!x |

Maybe the airlines should install larger seats instead of cramming us in those tiny seats with no legroom. By the way, should basketball players pay more because they are tall? |

Oh why not make me pay for two seats... After all I already pay extra for bigger pants and q sized clothing..
I know no one wants a big person hanging over in their chair.
funny how small the chairs seem to be.... I am sure it is just me...
I really enjoy the baby's that sit with the parent. they are so small they are free... funny little crys and stepping all over everyone in the row... drooling on people is not nice but free.
Oh by the way when they come down the isle and sell food and snacks....You know darn well the big guy doesn't need anything to eat so maybe they should just charge him double.
There that will fix us fatties. |

Well, I guess there are some who cannot help being large in stature but what about the weight limit of 20kg on aircraft leaving UK but when you return from say Rio, all the check-in desk does is mark your case 'Heavy' and off it goes, with no extra charge. What does that tel you? |
|

So_This_Is_It?

No they sshouldn't
Economy seats are ridiculously cramped and way too small
i am 6'7" and have to fly business class or first class because of legroom which means if I can't afford ,it I can't fly.
Economy seats have shrunk over the years because of greedy airlines and they need to change it. |

90% of fat people are fat because of choice not medical conditions.
When I was a kid, they weighed you and your baggage. If you were over the average, you had to pay.
It costs more in fuel to carry a heavy person than it does a thin one.
I say charge them. |
|

Chiky
 |
Well, if they take up more than one seat, sure. But if they can fit in one seat, and don't take up room in the next seat over, no.
But then again, does anyone charge you more for being ugly? |

What about smelly people (including smelly smokers) and on any public transport. Why should I have to sit next to somebody who pollutes the air with their offensive odours? I mean, at least a fat person doesn't interfere with my personal well being. |

by the looks of your questions and answers you seem to be a very bitter sad person.
Try being kind to someone and see how it makes you feel,a smile or a kind word can make someones day |

IF they take up more than one seat then yes, they should buy both seats. They will b*tch and moan and say its prejudice. If they want to be comfortable, they should pay more. Plus, if they take up my seat that I paid for, that is unfair to me. It's all about ecomonics, not what is right or wrong or fair. |

Too right they should. People have to pay extra if their luggage is heavier!! |

I used to be opposed to this idea. Then as I gained a lot of weight over 10 years from 220 to 620, I realized that as my size increased, I found I was taking more room when I flew and did not enjoy making my fellow passenger uncomfortable. I also needed the extra room, especially as I passed 400. As a result, I started paying for the second seat. No issue for me. I would like to find another way but not with the current airline environment. I still get looks from people about how much room I take but at least they cannot say they are affected since I use the seats I pay for. |

Yes I agree but only if they need 2 seats but at the same time i feel sorry for them and it must be embarassing for them. :s |

Yes there is nothing worse than being squeezed in next to a fattie!
U.S have a particular problem I used to dread doing domestic flights as everyone is so big. |
|

Blonde hootie

Yeah ! Right on.
They should pay more for clothing too.
why is large sized clothing the same price as small.
I don't think that its fair, large people get twice the material as me, for the same price.
That can't be right, can it ? |

Oh boy! What a lot of self-righteous people we have out there. Just tell me this, if you were seriously injured on the way home from work today, would you care if the first person on the scene were a fat doctor? Or a smoker? Or someone with body odor? Just live with it and if you don't like being out there in the world, don't offend people with your attitudes because you think everyone should be like you. It's attitudes like that which cause problems in the world. Learn some tolerance and respect for others please! |

It would make them do something about they'er weight or never fly. Airlines at the moment sit the fat people furthest from the exit so from an event of a fire/crash they don't block anyone from escaping. |
|

Ed
|
Yes, and even if they get away with one seat. Everyone should be weighed before they get on, and if their weight and height is hugely disproportionate, should be charged the excess baggage fee. |
|

matthew2riches
 |
yes i do!!!!!!!
soooooo true - they should build scales into the checkin floor and you stand on them and your cost is based around you weight.
if they did this for other things such as trains, busses and boats (just for the fun of it) it could make a LOT of people think twice about their weight!!! |
