First flight and alone

My mother is 42 and will be flying for the first time and alone this Friday. She will leave Fort Smith, AR on a puddle-jumper, land in DFW, and then fly to Las Vegas on what type of plane, I do not know. I will tell her to take some Tums, and chew gum. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

The chewing gum idea is good.... especially during take off and landing when the cabin pressure changes.
She won't be able to listen to music during those times unfortunatly but just have her bring a magazine to read. Then have the ipod or whatever for during the flight.
She'll be okay...
She's taking American Eagle i assume on the first leg, those are safe planes. I know they're small and seem scary but they're well made and the pilots flying them are first rate.

Hope she has a good time in Vegas!

Make sure she knows about all of the rules for the security checkpoints. A hold up there can be a real hassle and it can turn out to be embarrassing.
Remember: 1 quart ziplock bag (only one per passenger) to contain liquids in the carry on.
Each liquid container can be a max of 3 oz.
the ziplock bag of liquid containers has to go through x-ray seperate from the rest of your carry on.
Security will require you to present a boarding pass and ID
You will be required to take off your shoes and send them through x-ray
if she's carrying a laptop she will also have to take that out and send it through the x-ray seperately

Singularity of Good Fortune
Take good book. Try relax. Listen nice music on ipod.

Just tell her to pretend she is in her living room with a lot of people and just relax and enjoy the flight, have her bring along a good book or a puzzle book if she is into that stuff, Games Magazine is great for short flights. Tell her to enjoy Vegas.

I'm only 11 but i have been on a plane maybe 150 times. I just need to tell you a few things. You need to bring gum or just drink a lot because your ears may pop. Lastly just enjoy yourself.

The Fashionopolist
If possible, tell her not to sit by the window and to close her eyes during take off. Also, drink plenty of water, because the air in the plane dehydrates you.

When I was in the fourth grade I flew out of Fort Smith, AR and five air planes later landed in Manila, Philippines. She will be fine. I am glad to see you so concerned...btw GO HOGS

Make sure she knows how to deal with clogged ears. During the flight, there are times where she may feel like her ears are clogged. There are a few ways to "pop" your ears. Chewing gum, yawning, and pressing your nose closed and trying to force a little air out your nose works for me.
Basically, though, everyone has covered really good ideas: bringing a good book, listening to music, etc. :) Hope she has a safe and fun trip :)

Have a cocktail before hand if she is nervous.
