First time on airplane alone!?

Any tips? I have been on a plane a lot of times. Last summer I went on a plane and even with my friends I was still really scared. My mom can take me all the way to the gate but I am nervous that I won't be able to find my seat. Should I put my carry on under the seat or up in the bins? What if I sit by someone creepy? I'm so nervous!

I never was on an airplane at all until I moved from PA to Alabama in February, and since March I've been on 9 planes, every time by myself. Don't be nervous because you will stress yourself out over nothing. The seats are always easily marked, and if you have trouble just ask the flight attendant. It's always a good idea to bring magazines, ipod, etc. to keep you busy, and a lot of the longer flights will have movies and things like that. Just don't stress, you will be fine!

lsvanars
Just BREATHE! Everything will work out. Just bring a book or magazine and time will fly by. If you are beside a creepy person, reading will let them know you're not interested in talking. If you can't find your seat, ask for help. Thats why there are flight attendants, to help you. It doesn't matter where you put on your carry on bags.

Nothing to fear, the seats have obvious indicators to let you know which is your seat. If your luggage has something you would want easy access to throughout your flight, then leave it underneath your feet. If not, the overhead bins are fine. Some planes have tv's on the back of the seats in front of you so there's always entertainment.

If you are truly nervous, tell the stewardess that you are alone and concerned, and she will sit with you and keep you company. They are really nice :) Airplanes are THE safest way to travel and the security they have makes it nearly impossible for anything to go wrong. They are inspected after every flight to ensure they are safe, so relax :)

Calm down, imagine its like taking a bus...

Nothing happens on an airoplane and theres usually not anyone too freaky. And if there is, im sure you will be totally safe. Just be nice :-)

california girl 4 ever
ok i flew by myself for the first time this summer and im 14!!! its so easy it doesnt matter where you put your carry on. if you need stuff out of it during the flight then put it under your feet if not then put it over your head its not a big deal. and you will easily be able to find your seat and i was worried about sitting next to someone creepy but i learned if you take the aisle seat no one wants the window and espicially not the middle

NOFEAR
Fear is a form of mistrust. Believe you are not going to be nervous and before you get on the plane ask God to cover you with a warm protective light. Take breaths from your belly and not your chest because this will keep your anxiety from overtaking you.

Put your carry on under your seat so you can get to your things if you need to. Be a light to the "creep" because who you are at that moment and what you think about that person will surly come true.

Don't worry dear, the cabin crew will take care of you and will help you find your seat. I recommend you tell yout mom to get you an aisle seat, so you don't have to worry about asking for permission every time you go to the bathroom, etc.
If the flight is less than 2 hours, put your carry on under the seat in front of you, specially if it is not too big. If it is a small piece of luggage, take out whatever you need (book, magazine, etc) and put it in the bin.
And dicuss your fears with mom, she will help you!

Riding the plane alone can be very relaxing if you let it. A few pointers:
If they give you the option, trade for an isle of window seat. Window has the better view, but the isle gives you more freedom to use the restroom whenever you want.
Make sure to bring a book or video game.
MAKE SURE to bring a bottled water. An airplane has less humidity than Death Valley, so you can get dehydrated there faster than any place on Earth.

Hey you, Calm down, i have been on the plane on my own since i was 6yrs old and no joking, it was scary! But you have to be calm, because if you're going on a plane, it's normally somewhere fun or good (I hope), so when you reach there it will be masses of fun! If you are scared of take off or landing, buy some chewy sweets to eat when it's take off or landing. If you are scared of someone creepy sitting next you, don't look at them, sleep through the whole journey or watch TV (if you have them on those planes). Your Carry, you could put it either but i advise you to put your carry up in the bins, because i'm not sure that you're allowed to put them under seats. Don't be afraid, remember don't worry, be calm, thats all my advice.

Hope this helps and Good Luck!☻☻☻

You will have to deal with "creepy" people all your life sweetheart, so get used to it. Life isn't an MTV video or an Abercrombie ad.

Tell the flight attendant right when you get on that you are nervous and have them help you find your seat and stow your luggage. It is their job, that is what they do.

you're making it worse with all the unndeeded worry...why should it be any dfferent than before?...you've always survived it, right?
Statistics say that your safer in a plane than in a car.

-Put the carry-on overhead, making sure to keep what you may want to use, (ie book, etc). no reason to use up your leg room with stuff...but decide before-hand to reduce worrying over it. do whaever will worry you less.
with your seat number in hand or in head, slowly peruse the seat/ aisle numbers as you go. There is no reason why you cannot take your time. There are numbers and letters and right off you will be able to see which side of the plane your seat will be on. you can always ask this question as you board.
The main point is for you to reduce the reasons for worry. If you are over worried, this can only cause you more problems and aren't problems the things you are trying to avoid?

Jandel K
well first, i would calm down. take a deep breath. you will be fine. ask a flight attendate where your seat is if you don't know. if you sit near someone creepy, don't talk to them, ignore them, look the other way etc.

SYSV1RUS
Just relax and keep in mind that's it's not your job to know anything. You can always ask the flight attendant to help you. That's what they're there for. They are there so you don't have to fly alone.

If in the rare situation you get seated next to someone creapy, you might be able to get up and move. I've only flown a couple of round trips my entire life, but it seems like some flights look pretty empty.

As for your carry on luggage. Just do what everyone else is doing. It will make it easier for you to ask for help if you need it. It's they're putting their luggage away, they are already in that mode.

Just remember, you are the paying customer. You are on that flight to enjoy yourself. You don't have to know anything. You can ask as many questions as you like. It won't look stupid, there are new passengers that fly every single day. People that fly every day probably see this a lot.

i had my first flight alone recently...when i was 11.... if you are signed up as an unnacompanied minor (wich you probably are) then its very easy...you get on and off the plane first and you sit in the front and the flight atendnts help you..put your stuff in the top bins....and im sorry if you sit by soeone creepy

Haroon
don't worry, they have guidance they will tell you about everything

OOH The first time I went on a plane alone I was only 13 and I was so worried about the whole thing, but it was ok in the end! I was sat next to a pretty old guy who was quite creepy, but I just read my magazine and ate the whole time and kept wondering about how much fun my trip was going to be!!
I woudl say put your bag under your seat, as its easy access, and just relax!! When I was about 10 minutes off boarding my flight, i realised I was in the wrong terminal so I just asked loads of people and it was fine!!!
Just chill and I'm sure you'll be completely ok!
And remember, your much more likely to be in a car crash than a plane crash, so you're pretty much safe!
Good Luck (: xxx

1. If you can't find your seat, as one of the people on the plane.
2. It depends on how big your carry on is. Sometimes they make you put them in the bins on the top, and other times they don't. It's up to you mostly, whatever is easier.
3. If you sit by someone creepy, possibly ask to change seats?

Don't be so nervous. Just relax. I'd be nervous too, but the best thing to do is to relax. Good luck!

Melissa L
You'll do fine.

Bring a small carry-on, so you can easily maneuver it. My rule of thumb is that if I can't grab my carry-on and sprint across the airport, it's too big. If it's small, you can easily slide it under the seat in front of you. Bring something to do, either a book or a video game or knitting, so that if you are sitting with someone creepy, you won't have to talk to them at all!

Bruce
eat lots of food and distract yourself

Vagabond
I've been flying for about 25 years now. My very first flight was when I was 10 and all by myself. It went very well! The flight attendants helped me to get on-board and stow my carry on. I don't even remember who I sat near.

Now, I fly a lot. I love flying, on a big jet with lots of people, or a small plane all by myself. I don't worry so much about people around me, though sometimes the inconsolable baby with ear pressure can get annoying (but it isn't their fault, and I know that).

Anyway, tell the flight attendant that you are by yourself. They will be very happy to help you. Make sure you bring a magazine or two, book, iPod, or other entertainment with you in your carry-on. Anything electronic can't be used until the plane is over 10,000 feet (they'll tell you over the PA system when it is OK). You can read or just look out the window until then.

You may want to keep your carry-on under the seat, this way you can get to any entertainment you bring with.

If the person you are next to is weirding you out, just ask the flight attendant if you can move. If the flight isn't full, that is not usually a problem.

Anyway, have a great flight. I think you'll have a good one, and many more after this!

sexy.mexy.
just relax and don't worry yourself too much...you cud listen to music and read books or magazine to keep yourself occupied...and if the flight is long enough you can watch a good movie...have a fun time and good luck :)

..
Relax......it will be fine if you can't find your seat ask a flight attendant to help you, if your carry on is small enough some airlines will allow you to put the bad under the chair in front of you, if you sit by someone creepy...act like you can't hear or you have laryngitis and can't talk. And if it gets out of hand tell a flight attendant, they're there to help.....have a safe flight!

Sean
Bring headphones and soothing music. While you're flying, imagine you're elsewhere. If you're really anxious, see if your doctor will give you a mild tranquilizer for the trip.

If you bring a carry on make sure it is small and easy to put away. If you can't find your seat someone will help you. Also, if you end up next to someone creepy, ask for a seat change.

bring ipod, i brought my cellphone and it was ok, i turned it on after the pilot said we were at a safe altitude. im sure there will be a stewardess there to make sure you are ok once in a while. its not so bad, and i hate airplanes. to minimize being scared, go to the bathroom before, because its creepy to start moving. and the mask on the wall in the bathroom kind of freaked me out. just basically try to forget about it, and it can be fun! maybe try taking a nap.

ptjhr5l
Depending on your age - if you are under a certain age the airlines will seat you in an area that the attendent can see you generally. As for your carryon - I always put mine under my seat as it is easier to get out when the plane stops and everyone tries reaching up above. When you get to the gate go to the attendent and tell them you are alone and ask if you can get on early - that is generally acceptable. Good luck and relax.

S&T
Dont be scared, take something with you to read or listen to music and the flight will go by much quicker. Also, seating is very easy, I am assuming you are sitting in Coach and typically you can only walk one-way and you just follow your number to match the aisle numbers until u find ur seat. Depending on how big your bag is, you can either put it infront of your seat or in the bin. If you have something small that can fit under your seat I would do that becaus that way you can grab something out of your bag at anytime and its easier to pick up ur bag and go instead of waiting for people to move so u can get your bag from the bin. Good Luck and dont be scared.

ive done that 3 times so far just take a ipod or a gaming device or just look out the window the clouds are beautiful trust me it goes by very fast

you know, i used to have the same problem with flying, especially after 9/11. I had this fear that once the plane was in the air, it would exlode or something
I would hang on to my seat, or never let go of my mom's arm.
But then i rode a plane by myself for the first time when i was 16 (yeah i know, kinda sad) and it was actually really cool. It can be very relaxing as long as you dont tell yourself you're gonna die. Just sit back, throw on some headphones, and enjoy the peace and quiet. But your bags in the bins, easier to manage. As for sitting next to someone, on my way going, I sat next to a really polite and loving old couple who were very nice, so that was cool. And then on the way back, I sat next to the HOTTEST girl ever!!! and we chatted and had a good time the entire way back. Don't worry, ull be fine, its all in your head
