Basically prices go up as dates get closer -- last minute deals may be available if there are seats still available the day before, but if you want a particular location/time it is a big risk to hope there is space left over. |

In my experience the flight prices go up as they get nearer the date |

It depends on how desperate you are to make New York in February, and how flexible your dates are.
Chances are the cheap prices were caused by a particular airline running a promotion which has now expired, or has sold out. Another airline may do a promotion in January since this is a busy time for bookings (people booking for summer etc) but if you have to get to New York in February - you're probably better off paying the extra.
If you're flexible, you could try different dates. Always ensure that you spend saturday night away as not doing so will make the prices really extortionate. |

I just did a quick random check and for out from LHR on 5th / return 12th I got a price of £247.
If you are flexible try various dates/times, you will be amazed at the variations.
I spend a lot of time sorting out our trips by checking on all the flight consolidators and always get the best rates.
You have to accept the airlines will be passing on the fuel increases so the bargain days are over! I am at present looking at Business Class flights to NZ at the end of 2008 and they are up roughly 50% from +/-£2000 to £3000+! |

How flexible are you with your dates for travelling? It really depends on how important it is for flying on a particular date. If you wait for the sales you might have to take a flight say the next day or even before but it could save you heaps!! Id say wait. |

Prices on the net always go up, as soon as they see someone is interested the prices go up, so you should always book almost straight away. |

The fuller the plane gets the higher the prices.
Try www.newyork.com for new york flights... we booked ours for over christmas and got it much cheaper than booking on BA.com.
Alternatively you could wait and book in the January sales. Me and my husband booked our first holiday to NYC in 2005 on New Years day and we got a complete bargain. |
