Flight from B'ham to Edinburgh how long is the flight?

I was given Flight ticket and says the journey would take 1 hr and 20 mins. Surely it is wrong as my friends told it should take around 45 mins from Birmingham to Edinburgh. If journey time is correct then how come it takes longer than normal 45 mins.
Additional Details
Yes it is direct flight

A direct flight is approx. 1 Hrs 9 Min. It may be a little longer due to wind speed, routing, etc.... You can get flight times and distances for airports all over the world at http://www.jets.com/

If the plane is a 727 then it will be 78ft long

you sure its a direct flight?

They might be assuming that if the pilot is from Birmingham that he'll get lost at least once!

Knownow't
Sure it doesn't land somewhere to pick other passengers up? Shouldn't take that long, maybe its one of those small planes with propellers that only do about 300 mph...still, quicker than driving or walking or going by train...chill out and enjoy the flight.

it depends on wind direction all that crap. its probably about right, takes 45 minutes from birmingham to dublin, ull probably find it is quicker anyway. they just give an estimated time.

The time, like that for all flights, is an indication - conditions on the day will determine how quickly they are able to leave Birmingham and how fast they will be able to land at Edinburgh. It might be flying above the city for 10/20 minutes if there is congestion at the airport.

45, is about right.

For the same reason that British Rail (or whatever it is called now...) uses an hour that is 66 minutes long in their timetables!

If you quote longer than reality you will normally arrive "on time" if subjected to the normal delays. If there aren't any delays you arrive "early" and everyone is pleased!

The railway operators are fined if they are late, hence allowing 66 minutes per hour!

Venceremos
you will spend most of the time climbing and descending it only 20 min in real terms
