Flights with no seat number assigned, how do you deal with this?

Alot of the budget airlines like you will be on, because you are obvisouly a very cheap person have a first come first served basis. They sell tickets to fill all the seats, and the first people to get in the plane get to choose their seats. If you are last in, you get a choice of whatever is left.

I don't know, I suppose you could seek counseling.

Or, you go to the airport and they give you a seat once you get there. Or you can usually check in online 24 hours before departure, and you can usually select a seat at that time (assuming it isn't a Southwest flight, or another airline that doesn't pre-assign seats)

it depends on which airline you're flying, southwest does not assign seats. however all other airlines do assign seats. if you didn't purchase your ticket far enough in advance you may not get a seat assignment when you buy your ticket. that doesn't mean they don't have one for you, it just means you can't get it till you check in. airlines hold a certain number of seats for the airport agents to use for unexpected circumstances, like if someone shows up in a wheelchair and they need to put them in a seat with movable aisle armrests. or for many other reasons. so if you don't have a seat assignment don't worry, you'll get your seat assignment when you check in

You get that seat assignment when you check in (or sometimes you can call the airlines, although they'll probably charge you for it). For some reason, that usually happens to me when I'm flying a codeshare. For instance, when I book through U.S. Airways but it happens to be a United flight, I can never get an actual seat assignment until check-in.

I have flown numerous times and I have always had a seat number. I suppose you could request a specific seat number at the check in counter. If they say not necessary then I guess its a first come first serve basis. Good Luck !!

At the assigned gate, people will start to line up about 1/2 hour before boarding time starts. It is first come, first serve and they do not have any first class. Southwest airlines, I know does this.

Easiest answer... When you check your bag...they will assign you your seat. It will be on your boarding pass. Quick reminder, if you have more than one suitcase for the cargo hole, you will 50.00 a piece for them as of 6/19/08.
