They wont land a plane if the airport is not safe enough to land it. If he is diverted to a nearbye alternate airport they will wait until they can go to O Hare or they will make arrangements to get the passengers and luggage to the right place. Check with the airline for information on weather diversion. But they will most likely be ok. |

At this point it's probably too late for him to delay his flight. It's not cheap to cancel or change a flight, especially coming from India.
Being in Chicago, O'Hare knows how to handle bad weather. Snow can make things rough, but the ground crew will keep the runways clear and ice-free as well as the planes themselves. They will always shut the airport down if it gets to be too much, and there's no way you can really predict that. |

Its possible considering it doesnt take much for Chicago to delay their flights, i know this because i have to deal with it all to often when working for United |

Of course there is danger, but even if there
was NO snow forecast ... well, its winter and
you can't trust the weatherman.
However, if the forecast is accurate, 5 to 6
inches of snow generally won't shut down
a big airport. Its other factors like high gusty
winds or icing. Simple snow can be plowed.
I would expect delays, however. |

All flights were said to be canceled at O'Hare Sat .2/24/07 at 7PM , due to an ice-storm ; but I have not heard a word on any resumed flights . Prior to 7PM , 230 flights canceled during the day at O'Hare . The last I heard , Chicago was under a winter-storm warning . There is a good chance your friend may have had to divert to another city before resuming the flight to Chicago - if it is during the severe weather . |

He should fly as planned. Chicago's O'Hare airport has the best record for keeping their runways open during snow.
I wish him safe travel. |

They should not let the plane land if there are problems. There maybe delays if they cannot keep the runways clear. If very heavy snow there can delays. It should not be a safety problem. Probably more dangerous driving home from the airport. |
